David Moyes has delivered what essentially amounts to a damning verdict on VAR.
Opinions may be split across the game but the West Ham boss isn’t a fan and has had no problem in saying so.
Whilst admitting that some are beginning to accept certain parts of the new technology which is slowly governing the game he really doesn’t believe it has benefitted the game as a whole.
At his best Moysie is an outspoken individual but don’t expect that to be the case with injury news and team selections.
After so long in the game and maybe as he rides on an incredibly successful period in his managerial career, it’s good that he sends out opinions which come with success rather than failure.
Nobody likes excuses for that and this statement from him comes at exactly the right time. I hope the authorities are listening.
Commenting at his presser per www.whufc.com he said:“I don’t think VAR has enhanced our game. I don’t think there’s many people in football who would say that it’s made it better.
“I think there are parts of it which we’re beginning to accept and time as well will make it easier, but I think the saddest part is that VAR is taking even more emotion out of the game.
We’re finding the game more sterile as it’s hard to celebrate when you score a goal because you don’t know whether you’ll have to wait a couple of minutes to tell you whether it’s been given or not.
There are parts of VAR which have enhanced [the game], but generally I’m not sure many football people would have seen VAR this season as a success.
There are parts of VAR which we have to pick up. This is why we’ve been sent the survey [by the Premier League].
I hope everybody will look at it, everybody has their own ideas and their thoughts on it. I think the idea is for football people to give their impression of what’s happening.
