Moyes explains the Coufal v Kehrer situation

|

David Moyes has explained he wasn’t convinced about Vladi Coufal’s fitness before the match against Southampton.

As a result Thilo Kehrer was called up and produced a performance that showed there will be real competition for the right back position throughout a very busy month.

Speaking to reporters the manager said: “Vladi, I thought, was playing very well actually and he got a foot injury. He could’ve been in the team at the weekend, even though he had played two games.

I just didn’t think looking at him  he was quite right, there was something about him that I just thought was a little bit off.

Thilo got the nod and did okay so we’ve got a lot of games coming up and we’re going to need to use them all.

It was Kehrer’s free-kick that led to the goal. I don’t know if you class it as a wide free-kick or a deep free-kick. I think it was the first one and I would class it as a wide free-kick. We’ve scored a few corners over the years but we’ve not scored many from wide free-kicks so I was glad to get one.

We’ve struggled with our delivery this season, we’ve not had Cressy in the team quite as often who always gave us a bit of good quality and the truth is, we’ve not probably quite had the heading ability which we’ve had with Dawson in the past, we’ve just not quite been able to get those goals.

I wish that Moyes would apply this to all players. He continues to pick Soucek and Bowen no matter how they perform and leaves players like Firnals, Lanzini and Cornet on the bench Mo wonder there is mutiny in the camp
