Moyes gives big Yarmo update

|

David Moyes has confirmed that Andriy Yarmolenko is back in training with West Ham but does not know if he will be involved in the FA Cup against Southampton in midweek.

The Ukraine international had been given the weekend off after Russia’s invasion of his home country.

The winger missed the 1-0 win over Wolves as a result, with the Hammers taking steps to keep him protected, and to give him space to come to terms with the news.

Moyes has now confirmed that Yarmolenko has returned to training, and that the Irons will monitor him before making a decision over whether he can be involved against Saints.

Indeed, the manager claims that the decision will ultimately come down to Yarmolenko himself, with the forward being the captain of Ukraine, and having family in the country.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the fifth round clash, as per the club’s official website, he said: “He did a bit of light training yesterday. I had a good chat with him.

“He’s really upset with the whole situation, which many people are, so we won’t rush him. I’ve asked him to come in today so we’ll see how he feels. If he’s fine, he’ll travel with the team. If he’s not, we’ll give him some more days off.
“It’s a daily ongoing thing. We’ll give him the chance to go with his own feelings.
“He’s got family members in Ukraine, and friends, and he’s worried for everybody. He realises the difficulty that’s going on and he’s a long way away and can’t do a lot about it. He’s upset, and quite rightly so.”
