Moyes has second thoughts

David Moyes is having second thoughts over letting Issa Diop leave.

The Hammers have been in talks with Fulham over a deal for the centre-back.

The newly-promoted Cottagers have been told Diop will cost around £20m and progress was being made between the two clubs.

But sources have now confirmed to C&H that Moyes is minded to keep Diop around.

The defender fell down the pecking order last season and his contract is currently scheduled to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season but the Hammers have the option to extend it by a further year.

That option may now be triggered as Moyes looks to keep his back line together.

Nayef Aguerd has been signed in the summer window and the other options are Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna, who are both over 30, and Kurt Zouma.

Diop is younger than all of that quartet and it now appears that he may be staying at the club.

Another offer from Fulham has not been ruled out, however, and there is plenty of time left in the window for things to change.

Moyes only having second thoughts? He seems to change his mind every five minutes. In fact, he used to be undecided, but now he’s not so sure.

This is a classic PR spin, we asked for a certain amount from Fulham, higher than they wanted to pay, now they are looking at other targets so it is being spun as we are not selling…

well he better keep him now he has let Alese leave the club…….our much vaunted Academy does not seem to matter to Moyes….our squad is wafer thin so as an option on the bench i’d rather keep him

Agree with the comments, so the strategy so far has been to virtually ignore Alese, under 23 captain and international player, stick Diop on the back burner, that’s international Premier league experienced player still only 25 – that’s the youth strategy gone, not to worry we’ve still got two centre backs in their 30’s but they are great.
