Moyes heaps praise on Adrian as champs beaten

|

Adrian_3164087bBeaming David Moyes grabbed his first victory, first clean sheet and declared: ““What a great result it is for us. We needed to find a result and we’ve done that.

He told the official site: “We came close against Manchester City and for long periods, we thought we were going to get it but today, the spirit of the team, how we stuck together and our effort was fantastic. The basics were done very well today.

“Don’t get me wrong, it was really tough today, Chelsea kept us under pressure. But we played well, we scored a good goal in the first half and if we’d been better with the ball in the second half we’d have got another goal.”

“We did better last week with that, we didn’t get a result but we were better and again we were better today.

“I have two really good goalkeepers. Joe’s professional when I told him he wasn’t playing, and Adrian played very well last week. We have kept a clean sheet today, so at the moment Adrian’s done well and played well again today.”

And he had nothing but praise for the fans saying: “For anybody to say there is not a good atmosphere here, they’re wrong.

They’d have to be here today to see the great atmosphere inside the stadium. The supporters knew the game was on the edge.

“We were fighting to not concede and the crowd were great and they played a big part.

“They appreciated the effort the players are putting in, and if they’re putting that effort in, then supporters will cheer them. Ultimately, we want to play our football better, but it can only be one step at a time.

“We need our season to turn now. We’ve beaten the champions today, it’s a great achievement for us and a great three points.”

Indeed, when you look at our fixtures in April and May you would have to say we should be aiming for 1.5 points a game for the next 16 because the last 6 depending on how things go could be real tough, if we do pull another amazing performance out against the gooners and get something from that we have in theory a great run of fixtures up until Feb all games we should be competitive in. I hope he plays Rice against the gooners, in recent history they have made a mug out of Reid and I think Rice is a better reader of danger than any of our other defenders and provided he is fit should be the first defensive name on the teamsheet on present form, he also might use Carroll against their weak defenders and try to exploit them that way, still buzzing about the result COYI !!!

I didn’t go to the game. Was there a good atmosphere at the stadium?

  • master says:

Extremely good, though tension crept in in the 2nd half as you’d expect.

    • Stratford E20 says:

Cheers. Lets hope the team have turned a corner, the crowd get behind them and we all move on.

Adrian must keep his spot well deserved. Comes back better every time he is benched. The Defense seem more confident with him Great shot stopper leader character & Organiser!

On that do u think Hart will try & leave in Jan to keep World Cup hopes alive? Moyes said he wouldn’t let him leaves but if he pushed he could get out…. And his wages could help get someone like Ward on loan.

Adrian inspired the defense . Not sure Hart would have stopped those low shots to the left .

Adrian was top class again. Well done Moyes who made a big decision in sticking with Adrian yesterday. So long as Adrian continues to play this way, there is no decision for Moyes to make going forward – Job done!
