West Ham drew the highest possible praise from a former Chelsea hero following this afternoon’s performance at the London Stadium.
David Moyes has always made it clear the recipe for any success has to be based on a firm defence but after a season when goals have been shipped for fun, not many would have backed him to tighten the Irons defence so dramatically.
And it doesn’t get a lot better than to claim your first victory as boss and a CLEAN sheet than against the champions in which every Hammer became a hero.
None of passed over the head of Pat Nevin who made a point of making some very strong points about the display on 5Live.
And they will give huge encouragement to all Irons ahead of games against Arsenal, Stoke, Newcastle, Bournemouth and West Brom.

Didn’t think we would be getting praised for our defense month or two ago.
But with the same players actually less we have had 2 great defensive performances (Leicester was decent) & think Moyes is due Credit for his plan & tactics & for having bottle to start Adrian. Bc I think he makes a massive diff not just w Shot Stopping but w the defense & team!

We defended as a team JRS that’s the difference , Moyes is getting his message over thank fek but the hard part is maintaining it ? 2 or 3 decent additions in Jan and we could be turning the corner on two wheels ! Agree Ref was horrific and they aren’t preferrential to ‘bigger’ clubs 5 yellows for us 1 for them Morata dived twice. And 5mins more like 2 max.

Only thing that worries me is Brady says we will sell players prob 2-3 Sakho AC & Ayew accepting offers & possible Cheik. So if we sell 3 & only bring in 2 not much better shape. Sully says get 2-3 players we need that without selling anyone I would keep Sahko if we could but he is going most likely bc contract up in Jan. Tho I would sell AC bc think his time is up. Kouyate could get back to hold self under Moyes to wants to use him as Fellaini type. Hard to get in #s & quality in Jan so even if don’t like Ayew can score & cover same w Sahko & Cheik
Tho Giroud wants loan in London so AC swap for Giroud bc Family new kid on way wants to stay in London supposedly but wants game time for WC
Superb from all the players this needed rest of season with a midfielder like the Chelsea club have in kante and a central defender and another right back that can play left side also. Can sell Carroll sakho and cresswell for some cash to add to the squad . Oh Arthur and and arnie brilliant today at last showing what they can do. Obiang back to his best Adrian in goal instead of the useless Hart overrated as usual and very happy now we have moyes and psycho instead of fat boy benni at Newcastle or woy at palace and if Moyers does the business now then let’s keep him with a longer contract and this is coming from a slav fan .
Agree with you Razor about the extended contract for Moyes, I wouldn’t sell Cressie or Carroll until the end of the season, supposedly Giroud’s agent is saying he wants to go out on loan in January and has a couple of options in London so obviously us and Palace, I am pretty confident that Wenger won’t allow it but if it was possible would be a good move for us, he is a much better player all around than Carroll and could get us some crucial goals which we might need as I think we will still be in the mix for relegation like many other clubs at the end of the season, our April and May fixtures look really tough right now but a lot can change between now and then and we have to start picking up points away from home also. Glad to see Pat Nevin praising us, he was a great player and always seems to give a fair description of things when I see him interviewed unlike many of the rentagobs.
Agree I have said just give him 2 years from start makes getting Recruits easier & so much else.
Not paying him a lot so wouldn’t be huge to pay him off it didn’t work out. But Hardee to get players in Jan & would say make players work for u tho he has done that!
