Moyes’ injury update

|

David Moyes has revealed that both Nayef Aguerd and Maxwel Cornet are nearing returns from injury.

The centre-back sustained an injury in pre-season against Rangers that has kept him out for the entirety of the season thus far.

However, he is back out on the grass and is training ahead of a potential return to the starting XI.

Cornet, by comparison, sustained his injury in the Premier League against Wolves, and has missed the clashes with Fulham in the Premier League and last week’s encounter with Anderlecht in the Europa Conference League.

The Irons play the Belgian side again on Thursday at the London Stadium; winning that game would secure qualification to the last-16.

Neither Aguerd nor Cornet are available for the game, with the latter also likely to miss this weekend’s encounter with Southampton.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Anderlecht game, as per the club’s official website, Moyes said: “Aguerd is beginning to make his way. He’s doing a bit on the grass. I hope next week he can join bits of the football. He’s a pretty good specimen so he’s one I might try to push on quite quickly, but we need to get him some U23s games and stuff like that.

“Maxwel had a small calf strain. I hope he’s going to be okay and hopefully it will be the middle of next week that we get him out on the grass.”
