Moyes: “Marko’s been great.”

|

David Moyes handed out huge praise to Marko Arnautovic following the defeat at Anfield declaring: ““He’s doing a good job for us, he’s a real threat, we like him a lot and we’re really pleased with his work.”

The manager added: “Marko has been really good, I’ve got to say, he’s been great. We’re demanding of him that his effort is big and he keeps his running stats up, which have been very good and physically, he does that job for the team.

“His ability is not in question and he is capable of doing anything on the ball. On Saturday, he got away a couple of times and I wanted him to go on his own.

Bbut he waited for support and laid a couple of balls off instead of going on his own against players I thought he had a chance to stand them up and take them on.”

The manager – assessing the opposition and how the Hammers could have got at them added: “With three in their midfield, it means you can get into wide areas and maybe cause them some problems because there’s maybe not quite so much protection, but we didn’t have a chance to get into those areas as much as we’d have liked.

“I thought we still carried a threat, particularly in the first half and could have perhaps made more of our chances.

“For a lot of teams, they make it very difficult because they put a lot of pressure on you and are in good positions to press, especially their midfield three and their front three. If you can exploit them, it will be at the back because of their system.

“But I do think their front three are a real handful on their day and, at the moment, Salah is the one you feel can make the difference and the things he does are what you need to try and stop overall.”

So , we are relying on individual talent to get us goals ?? .
And , I ask , why not . That’s exactly how top teams work … the problem is how to get them working within the team structure . Every team in top 6 have goal scorers that can turn a game on its head even against the run of play .
Job one is defense . A strong and well functioning defense allows midfield and forwards to mix it up . No defense = no attack . The old adage that says the best form of defense is to attack stilll works for me . Clever tick tack Football is all well and good with loads of poseccion,,, but small goal return if the defense is weak .
We lost so Badly to Liverpool by giving them too much respect instead of having a go at them . We can’t afford to try and play clever football ( we haven’t got the talent or nouse for that ) ,,,, we must go route one from here on in . I think it’s about time most Fans realize this and accept the fact we are not a true Premiership Side . We are a side that make up the numbers in a 20 team league . A team for the Big Boys to score points against .
Untill our mentality changes we will always be where we are ,,,, nowhere .
Yeh , if that Anautovic strike went in ,, but it didn’t .. even if it did Liverpool would have turned the screw and upped the gears . Against Swansea we must go hell for leather . Route one and to hell with it . Crosses , high balls , lob it forward and diagonals . It’s a fight for survival . We need players that can control a football and pass it . Untill then route one is the only way to go . Route one kept us in the Premiership,,, if you all recall .
Hopefully we can recruit some serious talent this summer but ,, untill then we only have one Agenda . SURVIVAL . DEMONSTRATE ALL YOU WANT , it won’t bring anything positive to this season . In fact it may only serve to lower an already low moral .
Real Fans active group no nothing about Football . Pretty sure the average age of these so called Real Fans is around 20 to 30 . A minority of the crowd . We were an average team at Upton Park making up the numbers for the last 50 years … why should it all of a sudden be different . ?? . We are progressing , so stop acting like kids that didn’t buy the winning raffle ticket .

Some good points but lots of sweeping generalisations and presumptions.
