Moyes snubbed chance of taking Bale to Everton

Lescott on the deal that never happened

David Moyes may have been responsible for a huge transfer window blunder if one of his former players is to be believed.

The Hammers boss is known to be particularly careful in the market and Joleon Lescott has chosen to reveal that he rejected a deal which may come as a big shock to many.

For according to the former Everton central defender, the now Hammers manager rejected the possibility of taking Gareth Bale to Everton from Spurs in exchange for Leighton Baines.

Lescott – one of those that the former Goodison boss has often mentioned  as one of his most successful signings – took him from  Wolves in 2006 where he remained for three years making 113 appearances before moving on to Manchester City.

Speaking to Sky Sports Lescott said: ‘Coming in after the game Bainesy, who I was really close with, we were talking and Harry Redknapp wanted to swap them.

‘He pulled Baines to one side, had a conversation with him, so I asked ‘What was going on there? He said they were interested in doing a swap for Bale.

One of the main reasons that didn’t happen was because Bale’s record was so bad and David Moyes didn’t want to swap.’

Baines went on to enjoy a very successful Everton career whilst Bale eventually moved on to Real Madrid of course before returning to Spurs on loan this season.
