There is a most peculiar story doing the rounds at the moment. Frank “Stringfellows” McAvennie is convinced that “someone is pulling strings” when it comes to Maxwel Cornet’s injury layoff for West Ham United.
The Ivorian winger has been on the missing list for such a long time that he has probably grown a beard and will not be able to enter the Olympic stadium as no one can remember what he looks like. In all seriousness though; he has had to travel to France to receive treatment for a long-standing calf injury, which has basically scuppered his debut season with the Irons.
McAvennie makes the very valid point that why on earth does our ashen faced supremo not know more about his injury and the confusion about his return.
“I heard last week David Moyes saying he doesn’t know about the player and he doesn’t know when he’s coming back,” am finding that hard to believe, whether it was just a comment from David or if he really doesn’t have anything to do with injured players.
“I don’t know because when I played the manager knew exactly what everyone’s fitness levels were. Moyes may have been trying to be sarcastic, I don’t know.
“If he was in France getting the treatment I would be in contact with him every two or three days so it’s a strange one for Moyes not to know anything about this, which makes me think someone is pulling strings down there.
“There’s something wrong. Because he’s a decent player.”
If this is the case, then it casts more doubt on Moyes`s capability as a manager, because surely part of his job is the monitoring of players fitness and general wellbeing (as well as playing people out of position!)
