No ‘champers’ Jarrod counting off the stadiums

|

Jarrod Bowen knows how precisely how important is was to get away to a goal scoring start in front of his new West Ham fans.

And that he did it in typical style with a dinked shot which there was no chance of stopping made it all the better and there can be little doubt the fans have taken the former Hull star  to their hearts from Day One.

Beyond the goal, he was game was full of good of things – none better than when he chased back to help out young right back Jeremy Ngakia by stopping a near certain goal with a brilliant intervention.

His goal threat and willingness to track back and take on his share of defensive duties was impressive and he even drew huge cheers for closing down work close to the corner flag.

But it was the 15th  minute goal that was so important as he set out on the road to impressing fans who ask first and foremost for players to put in a shift.

And speaking at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/march/01-march/jarrod-bowen-homework-helped-me-pass-my-first-london-stadium he said: “It was important to get off the mark early and I was obviously happy to do it on my home debut in front of all the fans and show them what I’m all about.

Now we need to take our last two performances into the next game and the remaining however many games we’ve got.

“We wanted to play on the front foot and I think Micky and Seb caused them loads of problems with the ball, just turning them in behind, and that’s something the gaffer worked on. Those two boys up front were unbelievable, in fact everyone was unbelievable, worked hard and we got an important three points.

“I was trying to find my family in the crowd before the game and I saw my Dad jumping up when I scored and then at half-time I spotted him as well, so I’ll enjoy it with them.

“It was the perfect afternoon. I don’t like champagne so I won’t drink it, I’ll just keep it on display!”

“I’m ticking the stadiums off as I go. Like I said when I signed, it’s everyone’s dream to play against the best teams and you want to play at the best stadiums. I’ve got a chance to do that now, so I’ll rest up and then we’ll work through the week for next weekend.”

Maybe we are coming to a point in the season where teams are showing signs of fatigue. Certainly after this weekend’s results even the top premier teams are having trouble reaching their normal performance levels at will. This may give us a chance of pulling off an escape act if our future opponents are not at their best.
