No truth in Irons defender move

|

Reports that Spanish outfit Eibar want West Ham youngster Reece Oxford – potentially on a permanent basis – are well wide of the mark.

The Spanish club has been credited with an inquiry for the Under 23s skipper  ahead of a potential loan move but a top club insider inside told us there was nothing in it.

There has been regular reports that Oxford is fancied by Dutch and German outfits including Hannover and RC Leipzig – now the Spanish club has been thrown into the mix.

But we were told that apart from the one loan offer from Bolton Wanderers, who were ready to pay just 75 per cent of the player’s wages, there has been no interest at all.

Oxford was made skipper of the Under 23s this season with former captain Declan Rice now a regular in the first team squad, suggesting that at this stage his future is seen very much with the Irons anyway!

Why do we have to loan him out?.The money we get for a season long loan to whoever plus a percentage of his wages is peanuts in comparison to what the club has spent this Summer and makes no financial sense.Surely with the squad in a period of flux at the moment this is the ideal time to give him a proper go with the 1st team, starting with tonight against Wimbledon. There is a great player in there somewhere and its surely time he broke out and staked a claim in the 1st team squad instead of constant loans and playing with the U23s.Could be now or never as the song goes.
