Midfielder James Ward-Prowse may yet have a future at West Ham, according to a club insider.
Speaking to Claret & Hugh earlier today, our source responded to Ward-Prowse getting game time for the second pre-season game running during yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Southend.
Ward-Prowse had been expected to leave West Ham this summer but, unlike Maxwel Cornet and Niclas Füllkrug, who didn’t feature against The Shrimpers, Nuno Espírito Santo included him in the squad.
Championship Option
When we asked whether it was possible Ward-Prowse could still be at the London Stadium for the start of the season, Claret & Hugh were told:
“Sure, he could be a useful player in the Championship. Also, there has not been a single offer for him, so he could definitely stay.”
It would represent a huge and unexpected turnaround for a player who had previously fallen out with Espírito Santo during their time together at Nottingham Forest.

Our understanding remains that the West Ham hierarchy would be open to selling Ward-Prowse should a suitable offer arrive.
However, if no bids are forthcoming and he remains in East London when the transfer window closes, he could yet find himself playing a part in Nuno’s squad this season.
Sometimes, the transfers that don’t happen can prove to be just as important as the ones that do.
