Not even allocated a squad number | No way back for West Ham star

EVEN the likes of Maxwel Cornet and Jean Clair Todibo made it into the number allocation for West Ham’s preliminary squad announcement this afternoon: With ten players leaving this year there’s a significant shift around in shirt numbers and the surprise for me was to see Edson Alvarez allocated the number four shirt: Perhaps fuelling the suggestion of a reconciliation in view of Freddie Potts departure?

West Ham’s only senior defensive midfielder might yet have a part to play under Nuno, if that is the case. Of course, it could simply be a short -term solution pending the arrival of reinforcements and until the final match day squad is confirmed at the end of September, don’t count any chickens or get any shirts printed.

However there is one glaring omission from West Ham’s squad list: In view of the fact that the Hammers seem unable to offload him even for a miserly €4 million fee, it seems pretty final that Niclas Fullkrug doesn’t even have a shirt allocated to him with which to start the season.

There really is no way back, then , it seems, for the Hammers out of favour German, who’d been pictured so many times by the Hammers media department in ore-season training that you’d wonder if they knew something we didn’t!

Tellingly, other players have ‘moved’ – apart from Alvarez, Mohamadou Kanté becomes number 17 – but Taty doesn’t get the number nine shirt. Waiting for a new ‘main man’ striker, perhaps?

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

If I were the BFG I would be knocking on Nuno’s door, apologising and then fighting to get in the team, smash the schite out of the Championship and have 15 goals by Christmas and put myself in the shop window for January.

But alas it’s not Champ manager and therefore it’s all pie in the sky but the lad clearly hasn’t cottoned on to the fact he’s not wanted by anyone so best to appreciate your current contract and knuckle down.

Real shame as I think he could do a job for us at this level.

Interesting Alvarez has chosen No. 4 same as his international number.
Also worn by Steve Potts (1993-2001).

So are are you assuming that Todibo, Wan Bassaka, and Cornet will still be in our squad for this season, even after young Pottsy was dissed off even though he’s in every frame of the new shirt sales drive

  • Peter the Dutchman says:
