Brinkmanship or intransigence, the result is the same. Knowing how late the Hammers have left their business in this transfer window, with only the free signing of Joel Veltman to show for two months of work following relegation, selling clubs feel the have the whip hand over the Irons who have shed loads of cash and going holes in their squad.
Quite who is digging their feet in remains unknown but the deal between West Ham and Tottenham for winger Manor Solomon is on the rocks, according to this afternoon’s report in the NY Times:
“Negotiations between West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur over Manor Solomon are currently off for financial reasons.
West Ham, relegated to the Championship on the final day of last season, are looking to pay in the region of £5million ($6.7m) for the winger but are not ready to agree to the bonuses Spurs would want should the east London club secure a return to the Premier League.

Tottenham’s winger is a West Ham top target but negotiations are reported as ‘off’. At the moment.
Fiorentina are still in negotiations to sign the 27-year-old and pushing but as things stand are not at the right numbers for Tottenham.”
Whether the Hammers – or Spurs- soften their stance in the next few days will be larger determined by what other routes are open to Solomon, who was reported by his agent as being keen on staying in English football.
With Keiber Lamadrid injured for the start of the Championship season and several games thereafter, there’s growing urgency for West Ham to fill the left-sided vacancy created by Crysencio Summerville’s sale. Plus of course Tottenham know exactly how much the Hammers have in their budget, having boosted it by £85 million earlier in the summer.
Are we so short of cash that we are quibbling about add-ons for a £5m transfer, particularly as the figures commonly being touted around for the player were £15m to £20m?
This is ridiculous 5 million plus 2.5 if promoted is peanuts. I just hope there aren’t more sinister reasons for not buying a player of his heritage
We are going to get relegated Martin Club should be playing over Hackney Marshes and I’m not exaggerating
“Knowing how late the Hammers have left their business in this transfer window” Hardly late in the transfer window with 25 days left to go.
