Ogbonna update

|

Angelo Ogbonna looks certain to miss the match against Atalanta at the weekend.

The central defender damaged a hamstring during the game against Celtic which saw him come off after five minutes and won’t be risked during the Betway Cup match against the Champions league qualifiers.

There’s a real danger that to hurry him back from the injury would cause more issues and David Moyes wants him ready for the start of the season at Newcastle next weekend.

Oggy suffered what is estimated to be a 10-14 day injury during which he of course lost fitness but the club is working hard to have him ready for the game at St James’ Park.

The club are currently hunting for a central defender with only Issa Diop and Craig Dawson available in the absence of Oggy.

He is the only injury worry as we close in on the weekend game with Jarrod Bowen having recovered from an earlier problem.
