Irons Saturday games set for a crash

|

Traditional Saturday afternoon games will be in very short supply this season at the London Stadium.

Qualification for the Europa League will unquestionably see fewer games being played at a time which most supporters love.

Like Wolves and other Europa League qualifiers s last season the Hammers will be playing their games on a Thursday night thus pushing Premier League fixtures – where affected –  back to Sunday or Monday.

Wolves didn’t play their first Saturday game last season until December ( against Villa) and had two more throughout the remainder of the campaign – against West Brom and Sheffield United.

In may well be too that rather than seeing those games played at 3pm they could be pushed back to 5pm or suffer a noon kick off. The Hammers had eight games on a Saturday last season. it’s not going to happen in the new campaign

Those of us who grew up on Saturday afternoon football will be frustrated but of course it’s another example of how various competitions and broadcasters ensure that the game as we once knew it is no more.
