West Ham United’s squad overhaul appears to be gaining momentum, with young striker Jemiah Umolu reportedly set to join Crystal Palace.

According to The South London Press, Umolu impressed during a trial period with Crystal Palace’s U21 side. His goal and two assists in the Premier League International Cup semi-final convinced Palace to offer him a two-year contract. This move comes alongside potential transfer of Ben Johnson, another West Ham player, to Crystal Palace.

These departures could be the beginning of a significant exodus at West Ham. With David Moyes‘ departure confirmed and Julen Lopetegui  taking over, a squad reshuffle seems inevitable. Players like Lucas Paqueta, Michail Antonio, Danny Ings, Maxwel Cornet, and Nayef Aguerd are all rumored to be on their way out.

Lopetegui is likely to want to build his squad according to his own preferences. This might limit opportunities for immediate promotion from the West Ham youth academy in the upcoming season.

With his contract expiring, Umolu’s decision to seek greener pastures at Crystal Palace reflects the uncertainty surrounding playing opportunities for West Ham youngsters under the new manager.

West Ham fans can expect a flurry of transfer activity in the coming weeks as the club undergoes a significant transition under new leadership. The summer transfer window promises to be a period of significant change at the London Stadium.

Well the youngsters didn’t get much joy with Moyes being there, I think that set the rot in youngsters not getting a start. New manager should try to integrate a number of the better players.

and these great players, when they leave West Ham, they go on to bigger and better things do they? Don’t you think if they were any good that Sullivan would like to save himself £60 million here and there using home grown?

I think Umolu was likely to go under any manager. In the games I saw him play, he relied mostly on his enormous size more than anything.
The player who took his place mostly was Ajala who is a very different kettle of fish. Ajala relies on pace, ball control and agility. Since he came to us from Chelsea he has been little short of a sensation. One for the future.
Good luck to Umolu at Palace.

This all sounds v fishy to me.
So why doesn’t effing Palace poach Ajala instead then?
