Paqueta’s FA Hearing | Delay Has Further Hidden Consequences

Sean’s exclusive earlier today seems very good news on the face of it for West Ham United: The FA disciplinary hearing scheduled for March has now been put back until after the 24/5 season finishes. Lucas Paquetá, of course, has always professed his innocence of all the charges made against him.

West Ham management, players and supporters will hope the player can be focussed more on the events on the pitch: Maybe indeed the news had already been broken inside the Paquetá camp on Tuesday night as the Brazilian was much more himself, both more energetic and committed from first to last minute on the pitch. I haven’t seen him chase and close down players as he did in that second half against Fulham, since 2023/4.

Roshane Thomas in the nytimes.com/athletic concurred:”Lucas Paqueta looks revitalised under Graham Potter at West Ham – and he’s not the only one!”

The second half of the season suddenly look more inviting for West Ham with a resurgent Paquetá shining more brightly, especially under Potter’s guidance.

Best not to speculate on the reasons for the deferral of his hearing. And probably readers of C and H should not, either.

Quite how Paquetá must be feeling at this further delay though, who knows.

Human nature is such that the first move for any of us in this situation would surely be to wish to clear our names from such allegations, so any further delay may well be upsetting for Paquetá himself in his quest to prove his innocence.I cannot imagine being under such public scrutiny and conjecture as he has to endure – but dealing with such stress every day for what will be well over a year would certainly upset me.

Selfishly, as fans we are glad because it would seem that Paquetá can complete his season of games at West Ham without this FA hearing looming before May. For the player, although he tries to keep it hidden, another delay must be exhausting. Don’t forget this whilst outwardly we look forward to our somewhat tarnished Hammer regaining his shine this season.

Irregular betting pattern from Paqueta. Lucas is from Paqueta. Local boy doing well.

Anyone remember the 1969 Derby? Winner was a horse called Blakeney. Unusual betting patterns noticed after the race showed that lots of people living in the Gloucestershire and Norfolk villages of Blakeney had made bets on the horse.

Of course, no mobiles in those days and no computers too. This irregular betting pattern was only noticed after some genius had put Blakeney and Blakeney together to make fraud.

Unfortunately we have no such genius to connect Paqueta with Paqueta these days. It is just left to ‘alarms’ on the computer systems. Horizon was also waterproof.

    Enough said. COYI

This is an indictment of the FA. Again.
They have failed in everything from VAR to fair play enforcement. What punters bet on is beyond control, added to which the inconsistencies of the refereeing makes the premise ridiculous.

The FA have really behaved poorly in this case.
It’s over 18 months since the initial allegations, and there has (As far as I know) been no further evidence presented.
They must be aware of the pressure their charges/action/inaction place on the player and his club, simply unacceptable to prolong this torture.

Lucas is being stitched up. This is an ongoing farce.

If the evidence was clear, obvious and indisputable then the FA would have charged and sentenced him by now. I’m sure Paqueta’s legal representatives will vigorously defend him as most of what’s been alleged appears to be mostly circumstantial, just irregular betting patterns but nothing that links him directly. Having had access to his mobile phone it would appear nothing has been found incriminating him further or the investigation would have been concluded by now. So all being well, he should be able to continue his career and continue his recent improved performance on field once the saga has been completed satisfactorily. 🤞

Agreed, I think all we can do is support him as best we can, by cheering the lad on. He was very committed the other night. I have little doubt the news had reached him. I’d be pretty pleased in his place at their continued inability to act. But who knows? We’re all different.

The FA have taken on a multi millionaire who can pay for top representation from his weekly wage. If they thought they were assured in their outcome there’d be no delays.
