Tony Cottee can understand why Dimitri Payet is being seen as the best player in claret and blue since Carlos Tevez.
Cottee- writing in London 24.com – said: “Dimitri Payet had a great game (against Newcastle) and you can see why people are saying that he is the best player at Upton Park since Carlos Tevez.
“Some of the tricks he was doing were great and he reminded me of Alan Devonshire in the way he can create something from nothing.
“We do need to look after him though because we have seen other players look good for 10 games and disappear, but we want him doing the business for the whole season, so sometimes he may need to be rested.
Definate,is for sure the best player we have had since Tevez imo.Love watching him already,really is an exciting footballer to watch.The type that brings a buzz around the ground when he gets the ball.Players like that dont come round that often at The Boleyn.We should all enjoy every minute of it at the moment 😉
Couldn’t agree more…..Brooking, Devonshire, McAvennie, Cottee, Di Canio, Tevez…..all West Ham greats imo but have to put him up there with Devonshire, Tevez and Di Canio due to that outstanding flair which has been missing since Tevez. Feeling so confident about our team again and our manager. Witnessing the return of the West Ham way, would be nice to see the subject raised and put to SA and Robbie Savage at some point to see if they are able to take on board what it is and eat a bit of humble east end pie!
What is it with all this ‘he may need to be rested’ bollox…?? These players are the fittest athletes/sportsmen in the world.. why can’t they play as many as 38+ games??
this isn’t against Payet himself as I am as excited as every other west ham fan. Go back 20+ years ago & top teams were playing upto 60 games in a season with only 1sub & squad of max 20.
Defo the best since Tevez, it is early but he looks a league above, hopefully he can inspire his team mates to raise their games and make them better as Bilic has indicated.
Payer reminds me of tevez albeit he’s a midfielder and not a striker. World class. Can’t understand why he’s not playing for France. if payet carries on doing his talking on the pitch I don’t think old diddy dechump will be able to ignore him. Slav is right about payet making the players around him look better. That includes noble who always looked a better player next to tevez I thought.
