Pellegrini finds it all very difficult to understand!

Manuel Pellegrini is beginning to accept that he doesn’t understand what’s wrong with the Hammers performances of late.

And in his post match presser he made it clear that he was finding it difficult to understand how the team started with such a poor and listless attitude.

Join the club Pelle but truth is it’s all a bit more worrying that it should be if you don’t get what’s going on.

The truth is we were never at the races and a team that had scored six goals all season managed half that number against us in 90 minutes – that should be of the gravest concern

He sounded confused and anxious as he declared: “It’s really difficult to understand why we started the game with that attitude and without the pace that we need to win the game. In some games before we lost here, Crystal Palace was two set-pieces, today also was two set-pieces.

“They’re important points. In the second-half we reacted a little bit more but that’s not enough. You need [to play well for] 95 minutes in the Premier League to win.”

The reality was that the Hammers didn’t really start playing at all until they were 0-3 down which frankly is a pretty disgraceful way to carry on at home.

And what’s more worrying is that this slow starting nonsense has been going on since last season – Brighton and Hove Albion away anyone?
Pellegrini

The manager is desperate to get to the bottom of today’s slow start but frankly that should have happened a long while ago.

He said: “We start the season well and then we lose to Oxford, after that we start losing games so we need to know why. “The second half, we improved a little bit but I repeat you cannot play 45 minutes in a game. I need to find the reason to understand why we start the game in that way.

“The other two games that we played here at home we had the possession from the beginning, we went in front, we create chances and maybe the score depends on a lot of things.

“Today, for me, we cannot believe that the score was 3-2. Newcastle had a couple of chances first half that Roberto saved but we need to have a good meeting to review what we are doing.

“You must try to recover after that. We’ve been in worse positions than now but we need a strong reaction. We can’t play like we did against Everton. I hope the squad understands.”

  1. We have read comments on this site last week saying that there was no need to panic. I am curious to see what they will say today.

The kitchen is on fire, and if decisive action is not taken soon, the fire will spread to the rest of the house. Here are some questions the owners need to answer in a hurry:

    1) Do we have a Director of Football who knows modern football?

    2) If this trend continues, how long do we wait before getting a competent manager who can motivate the players and teach them how to defend?

    3) Who in the club recommended Roberto? The way he allowed the second goal is typical of him in previous clubs. Getting him to join the squad reveals utter ignorance of his performance in other teams.

    4) Did Fabianski’s quality mask problems with the defence that Roberto is not good enough to hide?

    5) And, finally, do the owners have the skills to answer the last 4 questions?

  2. Please lads sit down with Pelle and sort it , I still think he’s a good manager but the players are not learning or listening . Come on lads you know yourselves that was unacceptable , play as a team and support each other. I’m not a happy Hammer at the moment or at any point in the last 4 games sort it ffs .

  3. Sorry.I have already commented on todays shambles, but hey this from Pellegrini is priceless. If he cannot see what is going wrong in front of him and why, then he really does need to go.The saying. A man who does not learn from his mistakes is doomed to repeat them springs to mind.Just read his comments for our matches over the past month and its the same script he is quoting after every match.Any bets on him picking the same starting 11 against Burnley and then scratching his head afterwards..Sounds like a dead man walking.

  4. If you change nothing nothing changes.
Weaker squad to last year with a manager that sticks to the same system that clearly isn’t working with the squad we have.
Fabianski was clearly covering our weak defending and non existent central midfield.
He won’t change the system so the time will come when we will need to change the manager and for me that time is close.
Newcastle had a very quick winger and instead of paying the very quick Fredricks he plays Zabaleta, just an example of not preparing for the opposition and just being arrogant enough to think we are good enough to play our way.
Could be bottom 6 this year.

    • My point exactly Trevor. If we as fans could see when the team was announced the problems Zabaleta would have against the pace and trickery of Maximin why couldnt Pelle and all his backroom staff. Its so basic and yet totally overlooked.Worrying times ahead i fear.No coincidence its all gone tits up since Fabianski got injured and now we can see our defence and cut price goalkeeper for what they truly are.

  5. I’m sure I’m not the only one to notice that we simply do not turn up until the second half of all games this season. Allowing the opposition to quickly grow in confidence and get on top.
I don’t know why we don’t come out fighting but it makes for a very miserable up hill struggle.
Come on West ham please come out fighting from minute one

  6. its a combination of everything said above. we don’t look fit, we didn’t compete, we pulled out of tackles, no movement, no knowing where a player should be. we select the wrong players, we have bought the wrong players. there is no motivation within the team, even rice is starting to look second rate (and i’m not singling him out, he has been so good for us. I love him to bits.). something is wrong in the dressing room. as supporters we can see what is wrong, so why can’t the manager with all his backroom staff and the support our owners have given him? one thought is; we need muscle not just the flair players that can change a game. to get into the top 6 or 7 we need to scrap for every point. then, when we get there and play in Europe then perhaps we can have the flair players to unlock defences and be a citeh or Barcelona.

  7. The board’s appointment of Pellegrini was suspect. In wanting a big name manager they ended up with someone living off their past reputation. Giving him a big salary and the largest transfer kitty that any manager in the history of the club has ever had. Wake up West Ham get rid of him before he gets us relegated

  8. I have been saying this since he was appointed, the man is too old and devoid of any ambition. We need a younger manager who has drive and purpose to succeed, like Eddie Howe or Steven Gerrard. Do something West Ham before we go down!!
