Poll: Should we start the season with the currrent squad?

|

We have lost Pablo Zabaleta, Carlos Sanchez, Jeremy Ngakia, Jordon Hugill, Ablian Ajeti and Roberto from the West Ham squad over the summer.

We do have Grady Diangana, Nathan Holland and Conor Coventry available to the manager after their loans completed.

With just thirteen days remaining before the start of the Premier League season, options for fresh faces in the short term look grim.

The manager then has a further twenty-three days after the start of the season until the transfer window slams shuts with an extended period to deal with Championship clubs.

The manager recently said he is far more concentrated on those players already at the club rather than those who haven’t joined.

In today’s Claret and Hugh poll we ask whether David Moyes should start the Premier League season without reinforcements?

Our defence is not good enough and we need left back cover urgently.

A very closed question. Of course we would benefit from a couple of new signings & yes we may need some reinforcements, mainly a couple of full backs. One of the options on the poll should have been this COYI

No we will struggle again with Fredericks at RB and Cresswell at LB, in my opinion the more urgent position is LB as we have Johnson to come in at RB. We need a quality LB like the ukranian player we are being linked with. However as Johnson is injury prone and Fredericks is such a liability then we also need to buy a quality RB as our second priority. This is a minimum but in my experience we need to freshen the squad up more. I would 100% send Diangana out to West Brom on loan for the season and receive a loan fee and I would also sell Haller and bring into two quality forward players. Both need to have pace, strength and be technically good.

Long injury lay offs too Antonio and Rice will put us deep in trouble. Spending no money close season almost always means a season of struggle. Remind me why we moved from UP?

People are voting that they could live with our squad with our defence?!!? madness

Chelsea is competing with ManC to become the best squad money can buy. If I want to support such a club, I can. Based on the WHU friendlies, there are youngsters who can step up and that is far more gratifying than parachuting in a star.
We are not going to win EPL this year. Neither is Chelsea, or Spurs, or Arsenal.
    COYI!

It wouldn’t be a disaster if we started with the same defenders. They have had another years experience of playing together against some of the worlds best attackers. I would expect them to be better this year. Our defenders are no longer being coached by pellegrini to throw caution to the wind. We lost more points from winning positions under pellegrini than ever. Since moyes came in they are now being taught to defend. We saw the difference after lockdown.

Given our first run of games we are likely to be in a bad position by the time the window closes if we get a couple of key injuries. I’d rather get one or 2 in before it starts and then a 3rd later on
