Poll: How should West Ham deal with Rice wage demands?

|

West Ham are reportedly willing to wait until the end of the season before resuming talks with Declan Rice over a new contract claims Jacob Steinberg in the Guardian yesterday.

The 19-year-old is thought to currently earn £3,000 per week basic wage plus £10,000 per appearance bonus each time he starts.

It has been widely reported that the last West Ham offer consisted of an offer of £21,000 per week basic wage, £20,000 per Premier League start bonus and a £5,000 per week basic increase after 15 Premier League starts.

Declan’s agent Neil Fewings from the Wasserman Media Group is thought to be holding out for £30,000 per week basic plus the various bonuses on offer and negotiations are said to have cooled in recent weeks with no dialogue between the two sides.

In today’s Claret and Hugh poll we ask whether the club should just pay Rice his demands now, wait until the Summer or stick with their current offer.

I want this issue sorted as quickly as the next Hammers fan so we can secure the best prospect in our teams recent history but ….. £21k basic PLUS £20k for every start PLUS £5k increase after 15 starts sound pretty good to me. Dec is starting every game except maybe cup games. If he gets injured and needs time out he’ll still get £21k increasing to £26k a week. If we give in to his vermin agents demands then we’ll be held hostage by every vermin agent on every future deal. Stick to four guns and hopefully he’ll sack his agent.

From what I gather so far, He wants a higher basic but his bonuses could be less. This ,I presume, is to give him a decent wage (a) if he is dropped,(very unlikely) (b) if he is injured (very likely). You cannot really blame the lad for wanting to ensure he is covered. All players get injuries, we just hope they wont be bad ones.
When compared to others like Carroll and Hernandez etc, his demands are very modest. As he has become such a vital cog in our team this season I think we should pay him the money before someone else steps in and promises him the earth. How much would a top class defensive mid cost us? How much does Kante, Dier, Fellaini etc get paid for doing the same job? ” Give him the money Barney “. COYI.

Basically if they wait until the summer.

He will no longer be a hammer, as some one will snap him up.

Do it now, its simply. 30k a week come on, what is wrong with you.
