Potter the favourite among Hammers fans

Graham Potter appears to be a favourite among Hammers fans as the guy to succeed David Moyes  at West Ham and the question that needs to be asked is whether he was responsible for failure at Chelsea writes Rory Matloob.

In recent months it is perfectly clear that Moyes is under more and more pressure with fans  because of  his style of play. In two spells at the club the Scotsmen has overseen a unique five years, but is it now time for a fresh set of ideas?

Potter has been out of work since the April 2023 after an underwhelming seven months in charge at Stamford Bridge, but for how much was he to blame for these poor results?

Since Todd Boehly has taken over as the chairman of Chelsea Football club, not much has gone right in South-West London.

From the outside it looked certain that Potter would succeed with lumps of cash being thrown around on shining young stars such as Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk.

But teh reality was he had too much selection to choose from as in January 2023 the Blues spent a staggering £300 million to bolster their already thick squad.

With all the new additions arriving it meant players already at the club fell even further down the pecking order, the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang all struggled for game time last summer.

This made it a struggle for the Englishmen as when these players were called upon, they struggled to find any high-quality performances.

Potter’s three-year stint at Brighton clearly shows there is an admirable coach on display. A vital strength of his was his development of unrecognized players before joining the club such as Alexis Mac Allister and Marc Cucurella. When managing in the South Coast he took the team from 15th position in 2020 all the way up to 9th position in 2022.

So where would it leave West Ham if Potter was appointed? His possession style-based football would certainly suit the players West Ham have at their disposal. Such as Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, and Jarrod Bowen would all fit into his system. The fans too would be much happier with such a policy.

It wouldn’t just be the seasoned professionals that Potter would  be picking week in week out either as he isn’t afraid to give youth a chance. And that would be another big plus among the fans.

Why not. He’s British, he’s free so a Sullivan plus. His philosophy is playing passing football and his Brighton team was good on a low budget, did the groundwork for their current one.
Chelsea was a no win situation; given time he may have done something.

    A yes from me
