Pressure grows for Oxford call-up

|

OxfordReece Oxford is seen as ready to make a serious first team impact next season.

Many senior figures inside the club want the 16 year old to be given his chance during what remains of the season but that is very much in the hands of manager Sam Allardyce.

Some sources are telling ClaretandHugh there is a growing tension between Oxford’s supporters who want him fast-tracked into the first team and the managerial team who are unsure whether he’s ready.

However, senior figures at Chadwell Heath are convinced the youngster – who was wanted by Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea before signing a new Hammers deal – are convinced he will become a major part of the team next season.

As news broke this morning that the Hammers were planning a move for Swiss youngster Fabian Schar ClaretandHugh was told: “Many of us believe Reece Oxford is ready even though he’ll only be 17 next January.

“We are watching with interest to see if he gets a first team call-up. There are lots of decisions to be made and lots on hold but the situation surrounding Reece is being watched with particular interest.”

The very reason why this person we call our manager (a leader my backside) should be put out to pasture. I cannot believe he has not given Oxford, Burke and Poyet runs in the first team. I cannot believe he has O’Brien, Cole etc. on the bench. It beggars belief – I really do not understand the owners on this one. Yes BGS is the manager and he is in charge while he is the manager but ffs you have the power to get rid of him and let us enjoy the end of the season looking at these young players. And btw we should not waste money on Jenks when you have better players like Oxford and Burke in our ranks. Save our money for 2-3 star signings…

Neither Burke or Oxford are fullbacks, Jenkinson has been very good this season, dont get why you wouldnt want us to sign him

Our current league position and the run in of games that we have must offer the opportunity for us to look at our young players in the PL (not all at once!) before we potentially lock them out with further acquisitions in the Summer.
I know we are not currently blessed with a high number of top quality players coming through the academy, but surely we should have a good look at the best of the bunch. Otherwise, what exactly is the point of the academy?

We don’t have to blood the whole 21 team but Poyer,Boothe and Oxford deserve a chance and others NOLAN,O,Brien,Jarvis and Demel are finished with our club because they are substandard and hold the first team back,
    BFS OUT

Hugh, don’t be ridiculous. Why would we bring Oxford in when we have a perfectly good midfielder to move out of position to center back when needed!?

We need to keep him in the under 21’s for several more years loan him out to 5 or 6 clubs and then send him on his way to a nice 1st division club having given him one substitute appearance in the League Cup 3rd round.

Do you really think Samsasaurus will play a teenager, youre having a laugh.Sam is going to try to set a new Premier League record of going through a whole season without playing a single player who is in his teens. It is the way forward in the Premiership to not promote youth in your system.Just keep them for 5 or 6 years in the youth set up then let them go on freebies or cancel their contracts.Samasaurus has shown every other club the way forward 😉

  • rads the modern man says:

& if poyet is nineteen he counts but isnt home grown 😉

  • rads the modern man says:

Pumping millions into academies is superficial unless your manager buys into the vision of producing young players for your club.”
He added: “I only see a few clubs in the Premier League now who actually see the vision all the way through”
This is what Phil Neville said today.Could have been written about Sam for sure!

He has only just turned 16. The kid needs protecting and nurturing. I dont think he needs this kind of pressure and expectation placed on him just yet. If they seriously think hes that good loan him out at championship level like we did with doneil
henry and lets see if he can cut it there first.

Again.. if we get Rafa, he’s well known for ignoring youngsters as well. Go read his wiki.

Dont think Dudley the Dinosaur is even comparable to Benitez.Sam-amongst others,Blackpool,Notts County,Newcastle,Blackburn.
    Benitez-Valencia,Inter Milan,Chelsea,Liverpool,Napoli.
Yep there managerial careers have both taken very similiar paths full of honours & cups.Well one of them has won them,Sams still dusting the inside of his cabinet because theres no worthwhile silverware to polish 😉

  • Michael Miller says:

BFS doesn’t do youth – next!

  • Ironworker says:

I totally agree with Johnham1 – Big Sam could have brought on Oxford or Burke with 20 mins to go and 2-0 up at Spurs – what a chance for a young Lad ! – and that would have taken some of the pressure off Instead of trying to hold on for the win ! – But what happened we bring on Cole to try to hold up play !!!
