Pundit slams out at Ayew

|

andrew-ayew-west-ham_3766955Andre Ayew has received the thick side of Alan Shear’s tongue who reckons the Hammers striker should be facing a ban for diving.

Ayew looked to have been fouled inside the box against Leicester causing a big debate among the pundits as to whether he should have been awarded a penalty but Shearer had no doubts.

The striker’s  alleged dive could not be looked at by an adjudication panel because it didn’t result in a penalty but Shearer reckons that regulation should be changed.

He said: “This one is definitely not a penalty. This is a dive. “The unfortunate thing is that the panel cannot look at that. They should be able to.”

He added: “If they want to stamp diving out then the panel should be able to go back. They should look at that also and he should face a ban because that’s a terrible dive.”

I immediately thought it was a dive when I saw it on Friday night, I’ve seen the replay on TV he was definitely touched but the exaggerated throwing of himself to the ground makes it look worse.

He did what looked like a two-footed challenge on Demarai Gray shortly afterwards, very poor!

  • Lazurus. rises like a salmon says:

Funny how he’s championed going down if you touched on other occasions ! But were west ham ! Vardy serial diver , schlupp , okasaki, point the finger there ! What about a tactical analysis of our defending ! Oh yes , were not barcodes ! Least said about the wannabe spud punter the better ! What a waste of space !! Motd has become an old pals act ! Full of bias bull💩, gone right down the pan IMO , amateurs and were paying for it so luvvie lineker can put it offshore !!

It was a dive albeit minimal contact. However, my recollection of Shearer was him backing into defenders and then falling on his arse to win a free kick. Pot kettle black.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Shearer is a muppet probably in a bad mood after his team were obliterated by Watford they should have lost 6 0, there was contact it impedes him he did throw himself to the ground but imho it was a penalty, we never seem to get them these last 2 or 3 seasons and get a hign amount of dodgy ones awarded against.

  • Hammer64 says:

Well we haven’t had a penalty given for …so long I can’t remember! Can’t blame the players for taking matters into their own hands. In the days when we used to get penalties we had this guy who used to play called Mark Noble who used to take them- never missed & if he did he always scored the follow up. Ah happy days.

Agree with Shearer. Players found to have cheated should be able to be banned, irrespective of whether a penalty results. Regardless of whether there was minimal contact, Ayew threw himself to the ground. Not acceptable in my opinion and I hate to see it at West Ham.

Another Big mouth ex footballer slaging off West Ham!!! If it was an Olympic sport we would have seen golds all the way…… dramatic going down, but there was contact….how many pundits have said if he had gone down he would have got a pen!……West Ham are definitely the most hated team in the Country….. DILDO BROTHERS, take note next time you post on line!

Seen a lot worse dives this season. He was touched at least. Slamming him know bc they started it w Niasse. I’ve seen players not even touched go down.
Ayew should be playing more if ask me have him up front over AC right now

  • Max Willow says:

The bottom line, was that Ayew was touched.
Doesn’t matter how minimal the contact was; Shearer should keep his mouth closed before Drosophila fly in!

    • Prepagan says:

Curious as to what I’m missing re the ‘Drosophila’ comment. Drosophila are fruit flies right? Usually, the advice is just to keep your mouth closed in case a fly flies in, so what’s the reason for specifying the type of fly, particularly a fruit fly? What am I missing here?

  • Prepagan says:

Shearer has a reasonable point but only proposes half the solution. Players ARE diving and making the most of minimal contact and that SHOULD result in some form of punishment for them. But players are being badly let down by referees who appear to ignore offences where the ‘victim’ manages to stay on their feet.

Carroll was being hacked to pieces on the right against Watford last week but because he didn’t go down he was given no protection from the referee.

Referees miss so much that if a player doesn’t exaggerate the impact of a foul, it won’t get noticed. Unfortunately, if you exaggerate too much it looks too much like simulation – hence the current problems with Ayew’s silly dive.

I was brought up in an era where if a player was hurt, they’d get up, smile and run it off rather than risk being seen as weak. It depresses me to see the prima donnas with their fainting fits – I’d be embarrassed to behave like that.

  • Aussiedave15 says:

The Neville tools both said ‘dive’ and then said ‘there w6s minimal contact’
Ayew made it worse by diving…but contact is contact and thats a penalty.
Shearer should know better, I’m sure if we were to look at history there are many time that cock dived and got penalties.
Enough said about what went on, finally a battling performance and possibly getting better onward and upward.

  • mooro66uk says:

It’s turning into a non contact sport. If you suffer a serious injury you don’t roll back and forth. You keep as still as poss. Hate what’s happening to the game.

  • jimbo says:

When was the last time we were awarded a pen? Desperate times call for desperate measures!
