Ratings 2: Irons at Wolves

|

Macca hands out his marks

Fabianski: Well beaten for the goals, otherwise a pretty straightforward evening 7
Coufal: Exactly what we’ve grown to expect from him 8
Diop: Booked early but Wolves never really pressurised him 7
Dawson: Decent display after another early booking. A few lashed clearances 7
Cresswell: Moved into the back-three, defended well, less chance to get forward 7
Masuaku: I’d forgotten what it’s like watching Arthur, never quite knowing what he’s going to do next. Had a really good 65 minutes 8
Soucek: A little more disciplined tonight alongside Noble, doing more work in the middle than getting forward 8
Noble: Credit where credit’s due – he did ok; my first “just get rid of it Noble” came in the 91st minute, possibly a new record 7
Fornals: Superb finish for the second. Put in a real shift on his return 8
Lingard: Trying to decide if he’s the most naturally gifted player in the claret and blue I’ve seen. 10/10 for the first 20 minutes, drifted out of the game a little before helping run down the clock masterfully 9
Antonio: Unplayable for 30 minutes. Injured in attempting to score what would have been an unbelievable solo effort 8

Subs
Bowen: Straight into the action, burying the 3rd 8
Johnson: Replaced the tiring Masuaku and shored up the left wing with Benrahma 7
Benrahma: Helped keep the ball in the corner in stoppage time 5

Really hope Gareth Southgate was watching and taking note. This was proper football. Both sides having chances and giving it a go. Up and down. Up and down. In the end, the better team won. This is what we all want to see – even with England. Don Howe stifled the English game for over twenty years with the ‘opposition don’t score – we can’t lose’ philosophy. Gareth Southgate is carrying on with this – and frustrating all football followers as he goes. Wolves v West Ham – what an advertisement. We want more of these games. We need more of these games.

Wolves never pressured Diop??? He was at fault for both of their goals. Madness

    • GaryD says:

Thank you. He needs to sit and have the “Commander” Balbuena out there.

    • Mark says:

Yep Diop was definitely to blame for both goals, he lost his man twice, and they scored twice. I actually thought both Diop and Dawson looked a bit shaky last night, probably because no rice, sitting in front of them tbh.

  • GaryD says:

Bowen is half the player he was at this time last year. Scored a nice goal but doesn’t seem to trap the ball without a pop-up. Can’t be bothered tackling. Lingard, Antonio and Fornals work twice as hard. 4
Referee 3. Missed deliberate fouls. Waste of skin.

That was a wise decision to delete your rating 1 post. Noble was given 4 after a very decent game. Shame on you boys.

    • It was taken down because abuse of me, you or anyone else is not allowed here – there’s plenty of sites that do. Shame like praise is an opinion. He was ok on the ball but got rid very quickj cos he has no pace now. Off it he was a liability and as the gaps in midfield appeared as a result the quicker Wolves types simply targeted him and ran round him. I love everything Mark Noble has been and will be to this club but regardless I thought he was anonymous for the most part.
