Relief replaces fear as Irons turn it on at last

|

Some things are best unsaid – some fears are best kept to ourselves!

And so it turned out last night as the Hammers totally buried all the anxieties I for one had been keeping very close to my chest.

After two horrible defeats you do start to wonder what on earth is going on and even whether such a top manager as Manuel Pellegrini was struggling with a bunch of malcontents.

He, of course, followed by Mark Noble, made it clear it was the effects of a traumatic January window which had been the big problem.

But those of us sitting on the outside might have taken a sly grin and believed it all to be a load of tosh and that there were deeper problems.

We should have known better because Pelle is not an excuse maker and  after years in the game understands that there’s no pulling the wool over the supporters’ eyes.

Following the Wolves shocker  it was beyond hard to imagine a performance like the one we saw last night but within less than a week there was the evidence before us.

In reality it was probably a better performance than the Man U win or Chelsea draw and thankfully it avoided the third ‘double’ defeat of the season.

Yes of course there’s a consistency problem but put that right and what a team we could be looking at over the next couple of years.

Beyond the performance it was such a relief to go to bed knowing that any issues which may have affected the team were now well and truly over.

Onwards and upwards but please lads let’s have the same level of performance against Palace and Fulham.

Wow! Wasn’t expecting that performance – well done, lads! I agree Hugh that it was up there as one of the best performances of the season but I can’t attribute the change from last week to anything other than our players seem to get up for the big games and are ‘complacent’, as Antonio says, against others. Frustrating, isn’t it? Maybe we’re not so effective against teams that like a scrap – we get better performances against supposedly better footballing teams (except Man City). The next 2 fixtures will tell us more.

I thought Antonio was back to his best and Ogbonna benefitted from having Cresswell back. Rice was as good as ever but I couldn’t see the value of putting Carroll on apart from his defending. Good to see Klopp blaming the ref for not being fair. Oh, hang on, he meant not being fair to THEM … I must have missed that. COYI.
