Remembering a goal of a lifetime

|

Those who saw it will never forget it and for the few who perhaps haven’t please watch it on You Tube.

We are talking about one of those goals that live in the memory forever and as a result it’s great to know that after much speculation Manu Lanzini is set to remain at the club.

For he is capable of the miraculous as was witnessed in what was rightly an award winner as goal of the season at the Hammer of the Year awards.

Manu appears to now be the answer to the midfield cover issue which could involve either Declan Rice or Tomas Soucek should it be required.

And there’s every reason to hope that even when he appears in a deep lying role he remains capable of the sort of strike he managed against Spurs

3-0 down with eight minutes left to play, West Ham looked dead and buried. But Fabián Balbuena’s header and a Davinson Sánchez own goal gave the visitors hope.

It was then that Manuel Lanzini cashed in on with a quite magnificent leveller in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Said Manu: “I didn’t think anything – I just shot – and man it was so good.

Manuel Lanzini scores against Tottenham

It will be remembered as a fine individual strike, but Lanzini was quick to point out the role Angelo Ogbonna played in disrupting Harry Winks’ attempts to block his path to goal.

Angelo did a good job because he gave me the time to shoot and put the ball there,” he said. “Maybe Winks could block without that.”

The Tottenham man could not get there, with an unforgettable result. Lanzini rates the goal as the finest he has notched to date.

He added: “It was a difficult shot, the first goal I’ve scored like that in my career. We were 3-0 down and had nothing to lose. It’s probably the best goal I’ve ever scored.”
