Hammers want recruitment man on board asap

|

Rob Newman

West Ham are hoping that their chosen Head of Recruitment will be released from gardening leave by Manchester City in time for the winter transfer window and preferably as soon as possible before that.

Rob Newman – the former Norwich City defender – had resigned his ‘scouting’ role at Manchester City but  – as reported earlier on this site – has been placed on gardening leave by the club – a tactic designed to ensure that no information goes beyond the club.

The Hammers had hoped he would be available for the summer window but City are playing hardball thus forcing David Sullivan to continue with his de facto director of football duties.

‘News’ has emerged from certain sources today  that David Moyes has told Sullivan that he wants to be involved in all transfer dealings and wants the recruitment side of the club sorted.

But that is old stuff with Moyes first reporting that to be the case way back https://www.hammers.news/club-news/david-moyes-gets-his-recruitment-revamp-wish-with-two-major-developments-at-west-ham/ and has been a major mission since he returned to the club for a second spell.

Newman’s arrival will see Sullivan step back from his present role as Moyes continues to put his fingerprints even more firmly on the club and it’s at that point things will change.
