Olsen played 11 times in all competitions on loan at Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton last seasons, including seven games in the Premier League.
West Ham have been heavily linked with a £11m move for West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone as well as a loan with an option to buy for 28-year-old PSG keeper Alphonse Areola who was on loan to Fulham last season.
By the look of 36-year-old Fabianksi yesterday at Celtic Park he has no intention of giving up his number one spot that easily.
We need to keep Fab going. Not so sure about Randy though.
Hi Sean , at this stage I would take a first team signing of any sort . Ok not the striker we badly need but still an upgrade . I am really concerned we have not 1 first team signing . Are you not worried Sean with 3 weeks until PL , we ain’t signed anyone. I don’t know if it’s the board or Moyes holding things up . Doesn’t matter but whoever it is needs to get a move on now . We knew we needed a Striker since January we look a bloody joke. Sean if you have any inside info , please put my mind at rest I’m worried.
Totally agree its absolutely ridiculous…reason is simple, they put derisory offers in with absolutely no chance of it being accepted, ..as you say since January we have needed and still not anything at all ..other clubs are having no trouble signing players …but again our dealings are awful, even with the money saved from last window and the promises of recruitment….
I Really don’t think we should sign Olsen, and I am saying that as a Swedish citizen. He is an OK keeper, but I think his distribution is poor; and considering how good we are at the counter, I would assume that to be important.
I don’t really understand why we cannot just get Areola onboard? In my view he is (far) better than both Olsen and Johnstone, and is actually a long-term candidate for the first team spot. I don’t view Johnstone and Olsen as more than backup, but maybe Johnstone can get there. I understand hAreolas wages are higher, but considering he would not command a superhigh fee, I think it would be proper to think long-term, and also show that we are not only doing budget buying. I mean if I were Rice, I would seriously look at the ambitions shown by West Ham; and surely Areola would be a good signing.
Is there anyone out there who would prefer Sam or Robin over Alphonse?
For me johnstone or Alphonse Olsen doesnt do it for me at all. Dont see him as much of a step up. Next level -not with most of the names weve been linked with. Depends which way youre going -up or down !!!! Keep thinking it will all change 2 or three decent signings but starting to think not going to be so. Hope im wrong.
The reason West Ham are continually linked with all and sundry is because we don’t sign anyone to fill any of the areas which need strengthening in the first team. Furthermore when Moyes states openly that there is nothing imminent happening on the transfer front that has to be a real cause for concern. He was the one who said previously he wanted his business done early this pre-season. There is no point in talking to prospective additions to the squad, keeping umpteen plates spinning, only to end up buying none of them. It is time to get the deals done. West Ham overachieved last season, and while we have some excellent prospects, such as Coventry, the squad is threadbare. If we end up with Yarmo as back-up striker to Antonio, and miss out on Pereira, next season will be a disaster. Please, please let us see some quality signings arriving at the London Stadium.
100% 👍
Areola for me. Johnstone’s not all that. He’s an upgrade on Randolph but that’s not hard really. Don’t see Johnstone as our long term number one. But with Salthouse as the agent and West Brom potentially offsetting some of the price against what they owe us for Diangana I’d bet that’s who we’ll end up with. Shame, I’d much rather get the better keeper rather than the one with the right agent.
