Whilst the focus has been on West Ham looking to improve their squad in the January window, there is still the very real threat of ‘predatory’ clubs sizing up several of the Irons’ first team squad members.

Some players, fans wouldn’t be averse to losing …But there’s news today about one without whom they certainly wouldn’t want to face the second half of the season.

Stories linger concerning Alvarez and Magassa – as Matt covered this morning – but alongside the suggestion of those two ‘fringe’ players being sold in January there’s another article today which scaremongers (hopefully that is all it is..) about a certain Hammers defender being on the shopping list of Turkish side Besiktas…

Cue the article from insidefutbol.com, whose report is based on a Turkish outlet’s article from Friday last. In it, they claim:

“Mavropanos, who joined West Ham in 2023, has two years remaining on his contract, although it has been suggested that he would not be opposed to a January departure.

Besiktas could offer him Europa League football and the chance to challenge near the top of the table, with the Turkish club currently sitting five points off the summit of the Super Lig….

West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos in action for Greece’s Nations League fixtures

Dinos’ electric form on international duty has not gone un-noticed

Besiktas, who are looking to strengthen their defence, have identified Mavropanos as a potential signing and are preparing to open negotiations with West Ham”

Good luck with those negotiations.

Whilst West Ham stay in touch with the promotion places there’s every hope that Mavropanos will linger in east London, with the last year of his contract – should the Irons get promoted back to the Premier League – worth over a million and a half quid.

Which he’s unlikely to be offered outside of the English game.

We just have to hope, for several reasons, that the football club’s downward slide out of the automatic promotion slots gets reversed fast.. so that any worries players like Mavropanos might have about getting back into the top division with West Ham dissolve PDQ.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Curse you Shaun Wright-Phillips.
I still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows another six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser.
Can tell I'm getting old knowing I watched both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old.
Magic.

We don’t want to loose Mav, if it wasn’t for his goals we would be in a right pickle. What we need is Kilman sold and a decent replacement. However every player has their price so £50 to £60 k min if they want him. I also don’t understand why we haven’t tried playing someone else instead of Kilman. It’s been proven he is the problem from last season!

    As always, it’s a question of £money.
If a team was able to offer Mavropanos similar Euro 3-5 mil. per season terms, AND meet West Hams price, then we can talk.
Besiktas are unlikely to meet either.

Well, that’s their first mistake ⚒
