Report: Hammers linked with Scotttish left back

|

According to The Athletic Wst Ham have shown an interest in young Hibernian left-back Josh Doig, who is also wanted by  Watford and Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.

In the past Manchester City, Leeds United and Celtic have been linked according to the The Scottish Sun. They also suggested back in April this year that he would be available for just £1.5m.

However, Hibs are said to be demanding £5 million for the young Scot after managing to get him signed to a long-term contract in February.

Watford reportedly had an offer of around £2.5 million for the player rejected earlier this summer.

Talking to Sky Sports, the young defender said: “There’s always speculation. For me just now, it’s about getting back fully fit as I was out with COVID and it’s taken away my edge and my fitness a wee bit.

“I’m so happy at Hibs. I absolutely love it here. They have been so good developing me and I can’t thank them enough. I have got another year to develop here and I am looking forward to it.”

Doig first signed with Hibernian during the summer of 2019, having previously been in the youth system of their Edinburgh derby rivals Hearts. In February 2020, he signed a contract with Hibernian that is due to run until the summer of 2023.

He was loaned to League Two club Queen’s Park for the rest of the 2019–20 season.

Sean, I wonder where this 75 million BEFORE player sales has vanished? You seem to ignore all questions regarding it on twitter, so thought I would ask here.
Or were you just lying to the fans making sure GSB get enough season ticket renewals to use the club as their cashcow.
Anyone would think you lot get a little cut of it as well, although I would never suggest that.

    • Heat seems to be affecting you Lana. We make estimates and Mr Sullivan isn’t the type of chap to pay anythhing to anybody as you would obviously appreciate and frankly we don’t need or want his money. We write what we believe to be the truth. Back to your friends on Twitter Lana Ta ta. As no money has yet be spent how do you know £80m won’t be anyway?

This comment assumes Moyes has to spend big money on big name players to build a team to compete. I trust Moyes to both build a team to compete and be a careful steward of the money we, the fans, generate for the club, even if there’s a bump or two on the road along the way. (I must admit, with England and the Czech Rep going deep in the Euros, as well as our involvement in the Europa League, I’m expecting next season might be a bump in the road.) Haven’t seen him play, but, on the face of it, this boy from Hibs is exactly the sort of player we ought to be looking at. He’s young and already has decent experience. If he’s hungry and determined, he’ could be a great fit. After all, who, this time 18 months ago, had heard of Vlad and Tomas, the best signings made by our club in decades?

  • Keithsickofexcuses says:

Why does this all seem so familiar. “We have to balance the books”. This was the excuse in the past and now nothing seems to have changed. Why the hell fight to get into Europe ? Why get our hopes up, when the best you are going to do is play Noble and Yarmalenko ?
I have supported the Hammers since I was Four. Fifty – eight years on and the days when you could go into Europe with a barely adequate side are over.

SO WEST HAM BOARD SPEND MONEY, OR AT LEAST HAVE THE MANNERS TO TELL US YOU ARE NOT GOING TOO !

  • DJHammer says:

He is definitely playing in a position that needs upgrading (LB), I like Cresswell, but I see him as a left sided CB played in a three nowadays. Arthur gives us tremendous balance when attacking, but defensively he’s still found wanting.

On a side note, I’m detecting a certain uneasy vibe amongst some of us due to no noteworthy inbound personnel as yet, please let’s relax lads, the transfer window isn’t closing until the end of August, so it won’t heat up for another month or so. Excuse the pun.😅

  • The Cat says:

Sounds like a good prospect and would be a great understudy to Cresswell, we could name him “Deputy” Doig!
Jokes aside, I do wonder how some people manage their household budgets and can survive without being able to have Champagne and Caviar every day.
We’re not Citeh or Chelski and we should’ve all accepted that fact by now.
