Solskjaer makes his Lingard position clear

|

Jesse Lingard arrived into the Manchester United team for the second 45 minutes at Derby County today (Sunday) before getting a vote of confidence from manager Ole Gunnar  Solskjaer.

It’s the first indication of where the United manager stands with the player although his claim that he remains in “the plans for the moment” seem to suggest that things could change.

West Ham boss David Moyes remains keen to bring the attacking midfielder to the London Stadium and there now seems to me more mind games than ever being played by the United boss as he perhaps muddies the wATERS.

Lingard has to make up his mind whether he is ready to commit to some future – and possibly wasted years at United  – or gain regular first team football at the Hammers.

To be honest it seems like a non brainer and the Old Trafford boss is clearly keeping all options open giv en his comments following today’s game at Pride Park.

Following the game the United boss told MUTV: “Jesse has come back, been bright, he wants to fight for his place.”

“We lacked some options at times [last season]. Jesse is in the plans at the moment.”

One of the reasons Solskjaer may want to keep Lingard around is because of Marcus Rashford’s shoulder injury.

The forward seems set to miss the first two months of the upcoming campaign as he undergoes surgery on a problem that has long troubled him, and the United boss provided an update on the injured England forward.

“We are looking at the best options,” he said.

It wouldn’t surprise me if JL starts the season at Man U, then signs elsewhere on deadline day. Possibly for us.

Make an offer if not accepted goodbye and good luck to lingard. He obviously doesnt want to come enough will probably end up as before. . We are being made to look desperate.Enough.

Lingard has the right to decide , however can’t see him being in their squad in PL. think Man Utd want more cash for him. At 30 million we should look elsewhere ⚒

From a United point of view, Rashford and Pogba might mean the moment! Then there is also VDB? As a fan of both clubs it should be a no brainer West Ham.
I do worry that West Ham are not supporting Moyes as many would like. Circa 16m in debt? What would have happened if West Ham finished 4th? Westies need to prioritise another top 6 finish, ensure Europa League, another year and then more players again 2 games a week is a worry!

I think, he’ll stay, OGS won’t play him, and then he’ll move on in the winter window at a cut-price. Whether it’s to us or not will depend on what other things happen over the summer.

I don’t think Man Utd have a place for him, they’re just trying to drive up the price. But I’m guessing they’ll find that there aren’t as many buyers as they think. Personally, I’d happily wait around for their bluffing to end.

I cannot understand people commenting here about us making an offer and see what happens. The Man Utd Manager has confirmed today that he wants to stay and fight for his place. That’s it, I do not what is not obvious in all this. It is time to move on but I suspect that we have plans already in play and it would not surprise me if we have a signing or two already made. The reason I say this is that I cannot see us leaving it till the end of the window as prices for players tend to go up the closer we get to the deadline and secondly it will be more difficult as clubs will not want to lose players that close to the transfer deadline.

Another David Sullivan masterstroke refusing to add an option/obligation to buy.

    • As reported at the time, Manchester United wouldn’t agree to an option to buy. Otherwise there wouldn’t have been a loan and we may not have finished sixth in an Europa League spot

      • GoldSullyBradyOUT says:

Always there to run to the defense of the board – anything to keep getting chosen in the totally ‘random’ ballot.
If Mr Sullivan had inserted a 25 million obligation into the deal there is no way United would have turned it down.
Lingard 1 year left on contract, hadn’t played in months before joining us – Probably Sullivan offered 10 million

    • they wouldn’t give onen – perhAPS THAT’S WHY THEY ARE OFFERING A NEW DEAL!!!!

    • Graham Watts says:

I thought Man U refused to have this clause in the loan agreement

  • The Cat says:

Many great comments and views, the situation may not be as cut and dried as many may think or feel, including me.
Moyes most definitely has a plan, but the leaky West Ham of old where what we were up to regarding transfers has now been plugged. It’ll be interesting to see what happens before the end of this transfer window.

  • Alan says:

The key will be if he signs a new deal. If not then I suspect they sell at the end of the window.

  • Selsdonhammer says:

Personally I think it’s time to move on. Man. Utd. are playing on the fact that Moyes wants Lingard and have turned this into a saga with the player himself seemingly happy to play along and, so far, showing no obvious intent to leave. How long do West Ham persevere? Why not go for Pereira at West Brom, a similar player who was consistent all season. takes brilliant corners and was quite outstanding against us? Actually I’d be happy with any major signing at the moment. I thought Moyes said that he wanted to do all his business early this season.

    • ljd1980 says:

Totally agree. Let’s not forget too that Lingard faded towards the end of the season. Lets get someone who appears really hungry to play for the club.

  • Mandem says:

Jlingz shouldn’t cost more than £25m imo. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

Problem is I’m not sure we’ll actually offer that amount even.

  • zahamoore says:

I think as others have said the key is whether Lingard signs a new contract – which really does not seem to be in his interest

What ever Ole says we need to also see whether Jesse is picked to start the first few games

Meanwhile we can hopefully make a couple of other signings including a striker
