Report: Hammers plot German free agent capture

|

West Ham are plotting a bold move to land German World Cup winning star Mario Gotze according to the Daily Express.

The 28-year-old is a free agent after his contract ran out at Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

It is claimed that West Ham have made an enquiry for the 63 times capped former German international but Monaco and Roma are also chasing the playmaker, whose contract was not renewed at Dortmund at the end of the campaign.

Gotze scored the winning goal for Germany in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina, but his career has nose dived after he was diagnosed as suffering from myopathy in 2017.

The former Bayern Munich star has recovered from his problems, and made 21 appearances for Dortmund last year, scoring three goals.

Mario Gotze’s wife has suggested the midfielder has already found a new club ahead of the forthcoming season but has refused to reveal his next move.

There have also been rumours the German star could make a move to the MLS or China by the Daily Mail.

His partner Ann-Kathrin has remained coy on his next destination, but teased that an agreement was already in place with a cryptic response during a Q&A on her Instagram account.

Gotze won’t come cheap and wants to receive a salary of around £128,000 per week similar to what he enjoyed at Dortmund.

Another midfielder?!? I can’t see this happening. Does anyone think he is an upgrade on Anderson etc? And there must be a good reason BVB didn’t renew his contract.
Let’s hope there’s some proper news about the area’s we need to strengthen.

My nan would be an upgrade on that lazy Brazilian ****.
And she’s been dead 20 years!
No heart. No fight. No moral fibre.

Agree though, midfield is NOT a priority.

A David Sullivan signing written all over it, thinking big names equates to making us a big club. Man never learns.

Dont hold your breath mate..its crazy ..they are waiting to long ,,they will try to do something right at the last min ..and there wont be enough time…we have all been here before bee ,then well get a very annoying quote …along the lines ,,we tried,,…I’m resigned to thinking we will start the season with same squad ..or if we are lucky maybe a free or loan at the last minute..let’s hope they prove me wrong …..maybe at least a bid will cheer us up ..🙄🤥

Goetze? Past his prime already, even though only 28 years of age….
New signings? Highly unlikely. The last time Moyes was around – WHU managed to sign only Hughill. Nothing against the guy, but…
The current squad is a mid table team at best, provided we stay healthy.

Goetze is as close as we will get to a Noble replacement except he is a lot better and younger, he had an illness so went off the boil about 3 seasons ago but returned to form. High quality player and a genuine attacking midfielder that can also defend. Hope we do sign him as he is a ball playing central midfielder that will improve on what Noble can give us. We still need a left back though COYI!!!
