Report: Man United eye Hammers target

|

Manchester United will move for Sam Johnstone in the summer if they need a new goalkeeper but face competition from West Ham, according to The Sun.

The West Brom goalkeeper left Old Trafford in 2018 and has gone on to emerge as the first-choice at West Brom, while also earning call-ups for England.

Johnstone has made 162 appearances for the Baggies but never played a game for United.

The Sun reports that United enquired about a deal last year and his contract at the Hawthorns is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning he will be available on a free transfer.

The Irons are said to be leading the race to do a deal but there is also interest from both Spurs and Southampton, meaning that there could be some real competition for his signature once the season comes to an end.

Johnstone has won three caps for England and will be hoping to play in the Premier League ahead of the winter World Cup in Qatar.
