Report: West Ham transfer target rested for possible move

|

Guillermo Maripán will be rested ahead of a possible move to West Ham Spanish newspaper Marca have reported.  The 26-year-old Deportivo Alavés centre back was injured on April 19 in a match against Real Valladolid. The injury was reported as a grade 1 strain in the ankle but the  Chilean defender has been ordered to completely rest it.

The 6ft 4ins Chilean centre-back has a £21.5m release clause but it is thought that Alaves are prepared to accept less from the Hammers.

Maripan has 13 international caps and is a ball-playing centre back who has been likened in style to Barcelona’s Gerard Pique

Serie A Roma are said to have held talks in recent weeks with Alaves and are understood to want to compete for the Maripan’s signature.

The Chilean defender came through the ranks at Universidad Catolica in his homeland and made his first-team debut for them in 2013.

He made 93 appearances for Catolica before he earned his move Alaves in July 2017.

Maripan is a good CB but he has had recurring ankle injury… Sound familiar. He is tall ball playing CB but only 37 LA liga games.over 2 seasons.
I like him & if they accept £10m ok but £22m I think is a bit much. If going to spend £20m can get Mario Hermoso from Espanyol who is a left footer great passing CB 23yo quick & solid LB too. So even if Dipp & Balbuena are steady in CB role he can play a much more defensive LB role & cross & score a goal.
Also looking at Allen, Shelvey, Hayden £20m. Levante CM Jose Campanas only has a year left is great passer thru balks technical 8 assists 4 goals a great CM 25yo. With a year left £8-10m.
So could get CB & LB in Mario & Creative tempo playing mid for £25-30m

Wow JRS have to agree just watched clips of Hermoso was like watching Virgil VanDyke https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGPfj-XODNw raking passes, great interceptions and tackles aswell as goals with head and feet what a baller, how come he hasn’t signed for one of the giants ?

I don’t know he is only 23 still Marzipan just turned 25. I think Mario will be on a very big clubs radar soon. But for me & the football Pellegrini wants to play he is perfect. Ist as tall as Maripan but his passing is incredible. I’ve been watching him this season & like you said with head feet he is baller & he can tee players up. He is a technical player he could play mid IMO.
At 23 if coat the same as Maripan I’d take Mario. I like a left footed CB & w Oggy getting older he is perfect he is mobile quick range of passing from short clever balls to long pings. And that is LB cover too. Yes Oggy can play LB but Mario would be our best LB bc he has the pace to get fwd & cross & passing to set players up & the ability to defend which is what we need.
For me Mario even at £20m that’s 2 positions & him Diop Balbuena Fredericks from 21-27 could form a very good back 4.
** With Husillos knowing that league I’m hoping he is on pur radar. Pellegrini doesn’t talk about players. Marzipan is a link bc Chile. But Mario like you said VVD bhr left footed he’d be perfect in PL IMO.

He is too slow both physically and more importantly mentally for the EPL, watched him quite a few times for Chile and he gets caught out because he just isn’t quick enough,

  • JRS says:

HGD1 I agree especially at £22m. Tbh with Chile Medel is the better of the two the last few times I watched them together. Def better passer.
But I’m all about Mario Hermoso proper LCB versatile quick technical strong. Be perfect & I love a left footed defender especially who is well rounded. Oggy is I good but doesn’t have the mobility or passing. Mario it cost £20m takes care of 2 positions. And I’d rather have him then Kourtios for LB.
RB we should be good but if get one Enock Kwateng from Nantes on free 22yo plays a lot like Wan-Bissaka. Fast strong & defensively strong CB cover too.
