Masuaku decision

|

Arthur Masuaku has been the subject of future speculation for a long time among Hammers fans.

It has been largely accepted across the fan base that he is not the greatest left sided defender in the business but his recent form as a left sided midfielder has often been exceptional.

Knee jerk reactions are among the most common in football with many deciding a player’s entire future on the basis of one game.

But Arthur is something of an enigma and it will be a tricky decision maybe deciding whether we sell or stick at the end of the season.

As a result ClaretandHugh gave its followers the opportunity of giving their view on what should happen to the £5 million former Olympiacos player.

And in the end the majority decided that the club should hold onto him with voting on the subject ending with 971 votes in his favour and 685 against.

Zero defenisive awareness for a full back and not enough goals and runs off the ball to be a winger. No doubt he has potential but I’d rather sell.

  • Gebby says:

Don’t think it should be a fire sale, anything in the 10m should be entertained less than that I think we would struggle to find a quality replacement the lad is a good player but not one you want in your back four ⚒

We defo have worst to sell first, the last 5 games all I’ve seen from him is 100% effort… keep I think cresswell may be the player to sell… can’t keep fit for longer than one week.

he is not a left back. But an adequate backup for Anderson, in fact recently, he has been better than Anderson, who looks tired and disinterested. We don’t have the readies for a star player in every position, but he is more than adequate in his, but not at left back.

People have been slating his defensive qualities which I do get don’t get me wrong but from my seat in the Bobby Moore upper you can see the opposition attacks building and more often than not he is left with 2 or sometimes even 3 on 1 when players have gone bombing on and we are left exposed at the back. The same thing used to happen with Payet when he was out wide left. Ogbonna and Cresswell would get torn a new one but in fact the cover was gone from the midfield and that happens when Anderson doesn’t track back or if he has done a lung busting run 1 of the central midfield pair should shuffle across but we don’t seem to do that or we are too slow in looking at it. The same goes on the right as well, how many times have we been caught out on the break down both wing? I love our attacking play but we do need to have 1 eye on the counter and that is down to the holding Midfielder getting across if it does break down. Arthur doesn’t help himself at times with this wayward passing or dribbling out from in his own area though.

Cresswell is the one should be leaving and sold while we can get a few million for him from a championship side as his nowhere near good enough for our side and hasn’t been for two seasons. Has cost us so many points if you watch the games with him in it. Masu we can keep but his no left back but much better in pace crossing and technical ability so he can be a mid attacking player possibly on bench but at his younger age worth keeping as a squad player imo
