Rice: Cash/Player swap deal best

|

Arsenal’s interest in Declan Rice is not only becoming dreary unless the circumstances change fast!  There are likely to be better opportunities emerging from elsewhere where a player cash deal looks the way to go!

Claret and Hugh Facebook follower Neil Foxhall put it very well in a post when here he says: “I see Arsenal as the worst financial option for the club.

Arsenal have nobody to offer in part exchange whereas City, United and Chelsea do. Getting money and nothing else will actually leave us with less to spend on the same number of players.”

Spot on. We may all have opinions on possible players we would take but Conor Gallagher from Chelsea should the opportunity emerge or Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.

Gooners boss Mikel Arteta, meanwhile. is refusing to let Moyes’ choice Emile Rowe Smith to leave the Emirates which given he is after our best player seems a bit strong to out it mildly.

Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher appears to be a good option should the Blues come in along with the £90 million currently being offered by the north Londoners.

And should Manchester City emerge as bidders Kalvin Phillips looks a reasonable option in terms of a player plus cash scenario.

Tend to agree the logic of cash plus player is better value, providing the player is a good fit. Which brings me to the real issue, we are looking to be slow starters again by recruiting a DoF and we don’t have a ‘production line’ of recruitment in place, ala Brighton or Brentford. Those clubs have been smart and successful due to their policy which is so controlled compared to our scattergun last minute approach, where we go for players who don’t fit our style and just hope for the best. Last season ‘the best’ was bottom three and struggling at Christmas.
