Rice tipped as likely England skipper

|

The Hammers defensive midfielder produced another superbly composed performance as calamity surrounded him via errors from John Stones and Ross Barkley in an England defeat 3-1 defeat by Holland.

And afterwards Sky pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher had seriously encouraging words which certainly cemented the Moore image in many Hammers minds.

Carragher is catching up with those of us who have followed Dec’s career very closely and is is now tipping him as a likely future England skipper and such is the calmness with which he has performed over his first two internationals there’s no surprise there.

For now, however, though the good news is that he has completed another international injury free and it may be that he is now rested for the third place play off game against Switzerland on Sunday afternoon (2pm).

Meanwhile Carragher declared: “You talk about captains within the England team, you wouldn’t be surprised to see him (Rice) as captain in two or three years if he cements that position.

A few years ago it looked like Eric Dier would have that position for six or seven years, you’re talking about him as a future captain.

How Sky still employ Spit The Dog I do not know … actually, Spit The Dog was occasionally funny. Can’t say that about JC. Declan Rice is probably the player the high-pitched ‘expert’ wishes he could have been.
