Sam on shops, religion and bedding in players

|

SamatdeskSam Allardyce has revealed how his backroom staff followed a tried and tested method at settling foreign players into life at their new club.

Allardyce has explained in the past that bedding players down is a difficult affair but has now the newcomers are given help adjusting to life on their new environment.

He said: “We have a very good dressing room but more important is the backroom staff, the coaching and administrative staff.

“Plus our player liason officers who settle the families in as soon as they can. I’m forever pestering them, saying things like ‘have the players got the right place to live, get them out of the hotel as soon as you can, get them as many English lessons as possible, make sure the family at home knows where the doctor is and knows how to shop at the supermarket.

“Can they read the labels? If they can’t get someone there who can because they may be buying dog food instead of stew.

“That’s absolutely what you have to do. What religion are they? Where’s the nearest church if they are religious? Where can they go and support that religion. It’s something I’ve done for many years.”
