The Sun is reporting that West Ham nearly secured a sensational deal for Cole Palmer before Chelsea swooped in at the last minute in a shocking transfer near miss. However, what is not being so widely reported is that West Ham would have ultimately missed out on signing Mohammed Kudus, had Palmer been signed.

At the time, there were rumours that Manchester City had considered including Palmer in a swap deal for Lucas Paqueta, but this is the first confirmation of West Ham’s interest in the player.

Palmer, eager for more first-team play after limited opportunities at the Etihad, ultimately joined Chelsea, where he has thrived.

West Ham director Karren Brady disclosed that Palmer, 21, was close to joining West Ham instead. She suggested that financial constraints under the football financial regulations might have influenced Pep Guardiola’s decision to let him go, noting, “From all the newsreels I’ve seen, Cole is as cool a dude in front of goal as Jimmy Greaves himself. This is probably why David Moyes was so keen to sign him. We even had a deal agreed with City until Chelsea intervened.”

David Moyes must be ruing his missed opportunity, especially after Palmer’s explosive performance, including a hat-trick against Everton earlier this week, bringing his season tally to twenty league goals.

I have to say that sometimes there are things I wish I’d never have found out. However, one does have to wonder if we’d have ever signed Mohammed Kudus has the Palmer signing happened.
