Sky Sports were forced to make an apology after former Hammer Patrick Evra made false allegations about a Crystal Palace player and the West Ham manager’s daughter.
The comments were made live on Sky Sports coverage of the Manchester United v Crystal Palace game on Saturday but the broadcaster quickly read out a statement to issue an apology.
Immediately after his comment, host Kelly Cates clarified that they did not know whether or not the rumours were true. And after the game, she made another statement.
“We have to clarify a comment made earlier in the programme, suggesting that there may have been a relationship between Wilfried Zaha and David Moyes’ daughter,” Cates said.
“We understand that Wilfried Zaha has never met David Moyes’ daughter and that the claim made by Patrice was false.
“We apologise for any offence caused.”
Zaha had the last laugh on the day, scoring two goals against his old club, taking his tally to three in the first two games of the season.
Evra was as poor and ineffective in the studio as he was for us on the pitch. Money for nothing.
They’re so desparate the fill certain quotas on sports shows these days that they will take anyone who ticks the boxes. Any job should be on abilty to do it properly. Evra needs to think before he speaks but I’d say it’s all immaterial to him as he’ll still pick up his paycheck.
Silly boy, he had no right to spout such stuff, hopefully Sky will remove him, his comments are generally rubbish and biased, surely they can employ someone with more interesting and relevant things to say
What does dating have to do with Football? As commentators, former players can add insight but are generally inarticulate. Most played at the highest level because of their physical attributes.
Suggest:
Always pause the TV at the break and return for second half kick-off.
Have the sound very low. My wife provides far better commentary, having watched he children play at a decent level (she also read Ruud Gullit’s “How to Watch Football”)
Very disappointing from Evra especially as Moyes gave hime a last pay day at West Ham
