Slav nails the Carroll problem!

|

Andy CarrollSlaven Bilic has revealed that Andy Carroll’s injury problems are as much to do with being pushed back into action too quickly as adopting an overly aggressive approach during games.

Sam Allardyce claimed the second reason as being the primary problem but the new Hammers manager explained: ““The reason he got so many injuries was not only because of the way he was playing but also because he was playing when he was not totally ready.”

The record signing looks certain to get a run-out at some point against his former club tomorrow night with Slav declaring: “I don’t want to stop his approach. I want to moderate it. If you take that away from Andy Carroll then he wouldn’t be Andy Carroll.”

“His biggest quality is that he goes in and scares defenders. It is almost impossible to mark him in the box.

“He could get away with it if he was a different kind of footballer – tidy, not making challenges. The main problem was he was coming on the pitch after only two or three days of training.

“He has now had six weeks of hard training. It is almost like signing a new player and, yes, I am tempted to play him against his old team.”

A returned to fitness Andy Carroll is more than just a new signing . We all know he can be a defenders worst nightmare . West Ham’s playing options are beginning to take shape and Andy Carroll can only add to that variation of style when the situation demands it . We have missed him , but now he is back . At home to Newcastle is starting to look like a must win game if we are to stay in touch , or be part of the leading group . Not saying we should play him , but haveing him on the bench is a massive bonus after waiting so long .

Yes we’ve seen glimpses of what he can bring to the team and on occasion has looked fantastic, a real handful for opposition defenders but the jury has to be out until we see him consistently fit and performing regularly which will hopefully be made easier by the depth of squad we now have and a proper manager to manage him.

Yes Kevin , agree totally !!
I before e kevin, we don’t want notsobright back mate ,lol
Bilic has the ability to take carol to another level ! It can only be good for us and england !!!!
Once Woy is forced to acknowledge him that is !

I would like to see him used as an impact sub for 3/4 games unless Sakho gets injured, just to get him match fit, also Slav may be tempted or pushed to use him the first time Sakho has a poor game,
If we play him I think we will change our style slightly which will probably mean a change in wide players to,
I think this year the top teams will be the teams with the best defensive ability,
Most teams are beatable and we now have so many brilliant forwards we will scare every team

    • kevin says:

Yes , bubs . But we will only scare teams if we are hard to score against and keep our shape going forward . 0 – 0 draws ain’t gonna get us very far .. But I must agree that our forward line is looking dangerous .

I think AC will be so much more dangerous with Payet providing the service !

What I like about Carroll is he’s not one of those totally selfish type strikers. He brings other people into the game with his knockdowns and his crosses and his passes. He’s underated for his creating and assisting. And with better players around him this year and providing he’s fully fit I think he’ll do well.

  • HamburgHammer says:

Carroll has to make a decision now, he’s had plenty of time to think about this during his lengthy spells out on the sideline due to injury: Does he carry on like before, going into challenges all the time as if it was the 90th minute in a World Cup final and risk the next nasty injury happening quickly ?

Or does he dial it down a bit in an effort to minimise the risk of injury and give himself a hopefully long and successful career ? It’s no good to say “This is how I play, if I play differently I’m no longer Andy Carroll.” as he simply is no good to any club in this world if he cannot play at all due to injury.

Carroll needs to wise up a bit. No one is asking him to change his way of playing completely, but he needs to adjust it and adapt a bit.
Otherwise he can kiss his big league career and national team ambitions goodbye.
Needless to say that having a fit and healthy striker in our team is a frightening prospect for opposing defenders.

I must admit to being fed up with the Carroll saga but if we can get him having a good run of games he is 100% beneficial to our team.Im hoping he starts to think about some of the challenges he goes in for.Sometimes he charges round like a maniac, which i admire as commitment but some of it he doesnt need to do.Needs to use whats between his ears a bit more.Surely he wont be used as a hippo type battering ram & focal point for continious long balls either so his body shouldnt take so much of a pounding.I still hold out little hope of the next injury not being far down the line though. It just seems to be the way it is with him 😉

  • BrookingtoDevonshire says:

I think this sums up our previous management.
Leaving Carroll on the pitch against Southampton when injured, with his record was tantamount to treason.
Have a feeling he come good, if we play to his feet as well as use his strength in the air he’ll be absolutely awesome.
Going to put a few quid on him to score against the Geordies.

  • johnboy says:

Fully agree with everyone ! But !
It will only take one nasty challenge from a donkey or a sneaky one from lets say
Cahill -demichellis – you know the usual dirty players which there are plenty of in
the prem top to bottom !!!!!and its good night carol . I know it could happen to anyone
Just look at Valencia and that was sheer bad luck ?
This is the game of football where anything is possible.
Fingers crossed though and wish carol all the best of luck !! Awesome on his day !!!
Now let’s beat the Geordie !!!!
