Snodgrass agrees new deal

|

Robert Snodgrass has signed a new deal one year deal with the Hammers.

And the official site reveals that it includes an option for the 31-year-old midfielder’s stay at London Stadium to be extended by a further 12 months.

Commenting, Snodgrass said: “I’m delighted to commit my future to this great club. Sometimes you get a chance to play for that one club that’s special, going through that special time, and I believe at this moment that’s West Ham. We’re trying our best to keep progressing and keep moving forward.”

Snodgrass played in 38 matches in all competitions in the 2018/19 campaign and was included in every matchday squad apart from two, which he missed due to suspension.

Manager Pellegrini is happy to see Snoddy commit his future to the Hammers saying: “I am very happy that Robert has signed an extension to his contract, which is thoroughly deserved after a very impressive and consistent season.

“Robert brings many qualities to the team – great ability on the ball and at set-pieces, fantastic energy and work-rate, and excellent character and mentality in the dressing-room.

“He has proved himself to be a very important player for us, a good influence on those around him, and I look forward to seeing him make a big contribution again this coming season.”

ClaretandHugh says: Delighted! That’s the immediate response for a guy who has more than his fair share of knockers since his West Ham arrival. Robert Snodgrass may never be Ronaldo but in terms of application, grit determination and sheer bloody-mindedness he a player of whom we should feel very proud. His exile to Villa on loan is now history. His return and determination to prove himself as a player worthy of a Hammers role was incredible. That we now see him signing a new deal at a time when the club has company top level midfielders is another tribute to the guy from the only person who really matters – the manager himself. That the club are also ready to give him a year’s option shows the level he has reached in the manager’s thinking and for that the 31 year old Scot can feel extremely pleased with and and proud of himself.

Hear hear. Very pleased for him. You can have as many pea-hearted midfielders as you like – just ask Arsenal fans – but when the chips are down on a cold January evening, you need people like Rice, Noble and Snoddy to roll up their sleeves and show true British grit. Couldn’t be happier for him.

Can’t knock the deal. Although I think from a playing side, he’s expendable. It sounds like he’s glue that holds the dressing room together and keeps everyone happy and positive. That’s just as important to the club as what he can do on the pitch. He’s great for a quote and seems to love West Ham, which is hard work when you’ve had a rocky ride.

Ultimately we’ve only signed one midfielder this summer and Obiang is expected to leave so it’s perhaps premature to think he won’t get any game time. Perhaps not 38 games unless we suffer again with injuries, but he’ll still get plenty of minutes. A work horse who will be a good option against the lesser sides.

Worse stats by far of our forwards or midfield & runs around like a headless chicken. Half his corners barely get off the ground. Can’t fault his commitment but no end result. Not for me.
