Spurs win puts spotlight on weekend

|

West Ham will be well aware of just how important this weekend’s clash with Spurs is after Antonio Conte’s side won on Wednesday night.

Tottenham were in league action in midweek and beat Brighton 2-0 away from home thanks to goals from Cristian Romero and Harry Kane.

That result means that Spurs are now seventh in the Premier League table but they are level on points with the Irons and have a game in hand.

The two sides meet in the late kick-off on Sunday and the Hammers will have to get a result if they want to continue their own European push.

Spurs have been in wildly inconsistent form and lost to Manchester United last weekend, but bounced back in midweek, meaning that this Sunday’s game is a huge one.

The Hammers won the reverse fixture at the London Stadium back in October, winning 1-0 thanks to a Mikey Antonio goal.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates, leaving the Gunners three points ahead of West Ham but with two games in hand. They play Aston Villa on Saturday.
