Carragher drops big top-four prediction

|

Jamie Carragher insists Arsenal will still finish in the top four despite their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Gunners’ loss has opened up the top-four race, with Manchester United, Spurs, and the Hammers all still fighting to finish fourth.

Arsenal currently sit fourth ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, three points ahead of both the Irons and Spurs, and one ahead of United.

The Gunners have at least one game in hand on every other team fighting for the top four and they face Aston Villa on Saturday, while Spurs and the Hammers meet on Sunday. United are not playing this weekend and their next game comes against Leicester on April 2nd.

It will be a tight race for the remainder of the campaign but Carragher believes that they have the superior quality compared to the other three sides chasing qualification.

Speaking on Sky Sports, as transcribed by Metro, the ex-Liverpool defender said: “The fight for Arsenal is to get into the top-four.

“Forgot Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City, Arsenal’s results have been poor against them, but it doesn’t matter what your results are like against certain teams, it’s about how many points you get across the season.

“They’re in a fight with Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham. When I watch Arsenal tonight, I think they are a better team than United and Spurs, but those teams have individuals who can do special things. Arsenal maybe lack that.

“But I think it looks like a proper team and a well-coached team so I think Arsenal will just about do it.”
