The Champions League final could genuinely be played at the London Stadium after the latest horrific developments involving Russia and Ukraine.
Russia’s president Vladimir Putin has launched a full-scale military action against the country’s neighbours, to the condemnation of the European community.
It has had a knock-on effect on professional football, too, as the Champions League final was due to be held at Zenit St Petersburg’s Gazprom Arena.
However, Sky News has reported that the game is set to be moved amid the conflict, and London mayor Sadiq Khan has previously claimed that the city stands ready to take the game on.
Chelsea, owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, are the current holders of the trophy and remain in the competition, along with Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
We have reported previously that both Wembley and Spurs’ stadium are in use on the weekend of the Champions League final, ruling them out of hosting, while it is next to impossible that they will award the game to Chelsea due to their Russian links.
It leaves the Emirates and the London Stadium, and the transport links at the latter are much better.
It could well happen.
