Crysencio Summerville might have been dominating the transfer pages over the last 24 hours, but that hasn’t stopped him taking time to post a public apology to West Ham supporters following relegation.
As reported earlier today, Summerville has been linked with a number of clubs, most recently Tottenham Hotspur.
However, he has now joined Axel Disasi and Callum Wilson in posting a heartfelt message to Hammers fans, although notably stopped short of confirming whether he intends to stay or leave.
Summerville wrote:
“It’s difficult to find the right words for the disappointment we all share.
“It feels like we’ve let ourselves down, but even more importantly, all of you from the Irons family who stood by us throughout this difficult season.
“One thing I do know how to express is my sincere appreciation for your unbelievable support. In the hardest moments of the season, your support gave us hope again, pushed us to fight harder, and made us believe until the very end. Maybe that’s also why this hurts even more, because we came so close, it makes it even harder to accept.
“Through every setback and every difficult moment, you stayed with us and kept us going. Your support never went unnoticed.
“West Ham United is too big, too special, and too powerful to stay down for long. The comeback starts now.”
Summerville Never Stopped Fighting
Perhaps I’m reading too much into the final part of the statement, but it doesn’t entirely sound like somebody preparing to rush out of the football club.
That said, logic and common sense still suggest somebody who performed so well in the Premier League and has now earned a place in the Netherlands World Cup squad is unlikely to want a season in the Championship.
What I would say in Summerville’s favour is that even when his goals and assists dried up towards the end of the season, his effort levels never dropped.
Against Leeds United in the must-win final game, he twice rescued El Hadji Malick Diouf by sprinting back and covering at left-back during dangerous counterattacks.
I’ll genuinely be disappointed to see him go.
But I’ve probably already resigned myself to the fact it’s going to happen.
Are Championship teams weaker than those towards the bottom ends of Europe’s top divisions? If he does well at the world cup and then we get off to a strong start next season, his international career might not be affected. Looking through rose tinted glasses I know, but there’s hope!
Can’t see Spurs being an easy sell to many players. Especially good ones.
I would swap all of those hollow words for 3 points. Totally meaningless at this point and for that I blame everyone employed at West Ham United.
Summerville only turned up half way through the season unfortunately. Might have been due to injury but he blew hot and cold in the end. Would he be good in the championship, yes he might well be. In the end it’s going to come down to how much we get offered for him and how desperate for the money we are.
Surely we can’t let Spurs have both of our wingers after letting them have Kudos on the cheap. Talk about humiliation!
“West Ham United is too big, too special, and too powerful to stay down for long.”
But also too much in debt to buy players to help us make a realistic challenge to get back to where we once belonged.
Inhis contract he has no get out if relegated
Doesn’t look like it’s in any of the players hands.
Debt will dictate necessity.
Desire or loyalty will be bottom of the ladder.
Summerville to Spurs seems to be catching fire. No worries, but surely £60m if he goes to those toe**gs £40m if its continental Europe. Premiership tax and all that….
Obviously I think he will leave but having been picked for Holland in the WC that is one to tick off the bucket list. It might not be so important to play for a big club next season.
I know I’m a dreamer !
