Supporters’ group move protest date

|

Hammers United have moved a planned protest at the London Stadium from the Manchester United home game to the Brentford home match.

Yesterday the group posted on social media “You have asked for a demonstration. Please retweet, spread the word and please be there.” with a link to a statement.

That Twitter post was met with a backlash on social media which forced the group to follow up by saying “If you don’t want to protest, please don’t feel you need to read our announcements or comment. But if you want to comment, we would really appreciate it if you could read them. The answers are there.”

The statement in full from their website reads:

“Our next large-scale protest will take place on Marshgate Lane, before Brentford (h) on Sunday, 3 October.

West Ham supporters have waited patiently, following our last large demonstration in Feb 2020, for their opportunity to stand together and send a clear message to our owners.

This is your chance.

We are performing so well on the pitch, we are building a strong squad and we are in Europe. If you protest now, people will take notice and your message will be heard.

It is the perfect time to demonstrate.

Hammers United exists because of you and we are answerable only to you. At our AGM you instructed the committee to organise another larger scale demonstration. You told us to consult the wider membership to ask how this should be done. Your call for a demonstration before the Brentford game will be answered.

You have spoken and we must deliver.

This protest will not affect the team or any match-going fans who do not wish to be involved. It will be conducted away from the those who don’t wish to attend, aimed at 3 individuals:

Gold, Sullivan and Brady.

They have abused our trust, they have ignored our heritage, they have destroyed our home, they have left behind a community, they have exploited our loyalty, they refuse to listen.

You are adamant that they must leave.

If you want owners who appreciate their responsibility, who might consult us on matters such as our crest, who might build us a home to be proud of, who might bring back our traders and community, who might provide you with a service your loyalty deserves and who might genuinely engage with supporters, we urge you to stand with us. You can read a detailed breakdown of how we believe things could be improved under new ownership here.

This is about so much more than the football.

We must stand together for what we believe in.

We are the heart and soul of our football club.

We must not fade and die.

GSBOUT

Come on You Irons.”

It is pretty obvious by now that this has absolutely nothing to do with how the club is doing or being run. I get the impression this protest movement is being driven by a small inner circle of nameless faceless individuals with an axe to grind who are manipulating this small section of supporters for their own hidden agenda. It is becoming increasingly apparent that cracks are starting to appear as more of the protesters are beggining to question themselves as their numbers dwindle.
The club is on an upwards trajectory with an excellent manager shaping the squad to it’s best advantage. What is there not to like. The protesters are beginning to look more and more isolated and a growing number are probably feeling a little foolish.
Time for the fans to be fully UNITED and get behind this great club and team and enjoy probably some of the best football most of us have ever seen in West Ham kit.
